Identification of Misconceptions for Gravity, Motion and Inertia among

Secondary School Students

Dr.V S Khandagale Rajendra Chavan

I. Sypnosis

Misconception is referred to as an inaccurate understanding of

concept, the misuse of concept name, the incorrect classification of concept examples,
etc.

Many Secondary School Students completed their course without

developing adequate understanding of the concept and theories which they had been
taught. Misconceptions about Gravity, Motion and Inertia affects the learning of an
individual and could not explore an individual potential in the specific subject to its
fullest. Once misconception is formed they get deeply rooted and then its difficult to
minimize and has prolonged effects.

To prove this study, They conducted an experiment using the sampling

method, nature and size of the sample. They did this by selecting four semi-English
medium School and 35 ninth standard students were selected as samples. Researchers
made open ended questionnaires for data collection. It was observed that most of the
Ninth Standard Students perceived the misconception about the concept of Gravity,
Motion and Inertia.
Il. Point of View

I agree with this study that many secondary students get confused or has
many misconception regarding gravity, motion and Inertia. It is possible for them to
misunderstand the different concepts of Physics, It is troublesome for many students.
Moreover, most students do not understand it because the methods being used is not
appropriate. However, if this is changed. Physics can become an enjoyable and fun
subject/course.

IlI. Impact to Science and Society

The result of this study will help many students understand Physics,
specifically Gravity, Motion and Inertia. This information will guide not only students but
also teachers to apply various innovative teaching methods and techniques to minimize
misconceptions.

To the society, this will be a great help to people who is confused and
having a hard time understanding Science, they will be enlightened about the true value
of science (Physics) without having a hard time.
