Restricted Substance List (RSL) Testing: Please follow PUMA. PUMA sustainability handbook, Chemical Management
Version 5-2016 Link: http://about.puma.com/en/sustainability/environment/chemicals-management & Restricted
Substance List (RSL).
Safety Regulations for Children’s Wear: Please follow G-13 on the PUMA Website.
Government Regulations: Additional to the PUMA requirements the apparel must be safe, durable and must comply
with all applicable government regulations. PUMA Apparel is sold worldwide therefore EU, US, JAPAN, and CHINA
standards and regulations for labeling, safety, restricted substances, Colour fastness and Physical tests must be
followed always: Please see guideline for China Apparel Market requirements in page 54-68. Please see Japan
required standard and regulations vs. PUMA required standards / Requirements chart in page 126-130.
Performance Function / CELL Technologies: Please check which additional functions / CELL technologies will be
labeled and test them according to table in pages 131
e.g.
Under the reference code you will find all the associated colour fastness tests required for a fabric made
from a specific fibre composition.
The Physical testing has been arranged by Fabric type and End-use. Just select these in the left-hand
column of the physical testing tables and make a note of the reference code.
e.g.,
Under the reference code you will find all the associated physical tests required for your chosen fabric type
/ end-use combination.
Please note - Distinction has been made between certain levels of end-use performance i.e.,
Garment Testing
Garment testing focuses on the appearance of the garment, after several washing & drying cycles –
generally following the care label washing conditions. The number of wash / dry cycles will vary; subject to
the fabric type and proposed end-use.
This testing is to take place twice for each style / colour way combination i.e., during the development
phase using bulk fabrics and trims qualities (does not need to be correct for colour), and then at the time of
First bulk production using bulk fabric and trim qualities for each colour involved in an order.
Other required tests relate to specific garment types i.e., Socks, Down Filled jackets etc.

Procedure:
• Prepare blue scale and test specimen as per ISO 105-B02:1994 + Amd. 1:1998 + Amd. 2:2000
• Lay the blue scale and test specimen horizontal on the tray of the UV light fastness tester
• Drop on the part of the test specimen which is not covered, axial 0,15ml of the 30g/l sodium chloride solution.
Remark: if fabric does not absorb the solution nevertheless place the drop axial and make sure that the drop
stays axial on the test specimen. Do not wet the blue scale. The blue scale is running without any
sodium chloride solution.
Make sure that during the test the blue scale stays dry.
• Turn on the UV light fastness tester – running approx. 20h till a good evaluation of mark 4 is possible
according to ISO 105-B02:1994 + Amd. 1:1998 + Amd. 2:2000
• During the test the test specimen has to be wetted two times. 1st time before starting the UV light fastness
tester and 2nd time after 14 h radiation time (both times 0,15ml).
Remark: do not stop the radiation during you drop the 2nd time the solution on the test specimen.
If the machine has to be turned off the radiation break has to be ≤ 1 minute.
• Afterwards the test specimen has to be cleaned. Spray with the spray bottle the distilled water on the test
specimen till all salt crystals are gone
• After the test specimen is dried at room temperature it can be

• Heat the heat press up and set the parameters as per table PT4.1
• Has the heat press the temperature lay the test specimen flat on the bottom plate of
the press with the face side up. Place the standard cotton fabric on top of it and lower
the top plate as per parameters in table PT4.1
• Afterwards remove the test specimen and the standard cotton fabric from the plate,
separate them and lay the test specimen flat the face side up and let it relax for 4h
under 20°C ± 2°C and 65 % ± 2% RH
• Repeat the measurements. Procedure same as described above.
Evaluation/Calculation:
The optic afterwards and the shrinkage must be mentioned in the test report.
• Optic afterwards must be evaluated under the viewing cabinet using the grey scale
for colour change according to ISO 105-A02, the grey scale for staining according to
ISO 105-A03, the original untreated fabric and the white untreated cotton fabric.
Requirements: No changes of the fabric (e.g. pressing marks, crinkles, dissolve of bonding, colour
change,...)
Staining on the white cotton fabric is not a FAIL but must be mentioned with the mark of staining under REMARKS
• Shrinkage calculation: Calculate the percentage change in dimensions using the
following equation:

*Remark: For Flammability: Certificates certifying compliance with flammability requirements must
accompany all apparel products. Certificate certifying compliance is mandatory required flammability
requirements for almost apparel products. However, some end-use products and apparel with specified
fabrications are not required for testing, see exception and exemption criteria below
Purpose of this standard is to reduce danger of injury and loss of life by providing, on a national basis,
standard methods of testing and rating the flammability of textiles and textile products for clothing use,
thereby prohibiting the use of any dangerously flammable clothing textiles
Scope:
The Standard provides methods of testing the flammability of clothing and textiles intended to be used for
clothing, establishes three classes of flammability, sets forth the requirements which textiles shall meet to
be classified, and warns against the use of those textiles which have burning characteristics unsuitable for
clothing.
Exception:
This standard shall not apply to:
(1) Hats, provided they do not constitute or form part of a covering for the neck, face, or shoulders when worn
by individuals;
(2) Gloves, provided they are not more than 14 inches in length and are not affixed to or do not form an
integral part of another garment;
(3) Footwear, provided it does not consist of hosiery in whole or part and is not affixed to or does not form an
integral part of another garment;
(4) Interlining fabrics, when intended or sold for use as a layer between an outer shell and an inner lining in
wearing apparel.

Exemption:
(1) Plain surface fabrics, regardless of fiber content, weighing 2.6 ounces per square yard or more; and
(2) All fabrics, both plain surface and raised-fiber surface textiles, regardless of weight, made entirely from any
of the following fibers or entirely from combination of the following fibers: acrylic, modacrylic, nylon, olefin,
polyester, wool.
Test Summary
1. Specimen sizes : 2 inches x 6 inches each
2. Brushing: For raised surface samples, specimens need undergo a brushing against the piles before conditioning:
3. Conditioning: dried in an oven for 30 minutes at 105°C, then placed in a desiccator until cool (no less than 15 minutes)
4. Flame length: 16mm
5. Flame application time: 1 second.
6. Testing (As below diagram): Specimen will be inclined at a angle of 45 degree. A standard flame (16mm flame length)
will impinge at the near lower edge of the specimens. The flame impingement time is 1 second. If the specimen ignite,
the burning flame will burn upward along the specimen & finally sever a thread. The distance between the flame
impingement point to the thread is 5 inches. The time from the flame impingement to sever the thread will be recorded
as burn time.
