My parents divorced when I was a year old, so my grandmother took care of me since then. Living with a poor
grandmother makes me study harder than anyone else, because at that time I was thinking about how to be the best
student, how to get a good result exam, so the school would send me to take any part in various competitions, and gives
me competition’s allowances that I can use to buy food and daily necessities. Sometimes I sell cookies I’ve made with
grandma in school. In Junior High School (중학교) I got scholarship until the end for three years because I kept in the
Top 3 highest ranking in school. That’s how I can keep continue my study. Even in High School (고등학교) I got
scholarship too, join many competitions and got money from it, and also doing some job as a part timer (아르바이트),
like selling clothes and foods, be a part timer radio announcer, etc. Until an announcement came to me that I got a full
funded scholarship in a good state university, I decided to resign from my job as a radio announcer and took the chance.
For me, being poor is a choice. I believe if we try and work hard, we will get a good result. That’s why I want to keep
spirit to make a better future life even I must work harder because I have no parents by my side. I believe I can do it all
by my self.
During my teenage years, I spent my time to work and study hard, but I also doing my hobby such as singing,
playing piano and guitar, and writing. I love writing since I was 11 years old. I wrote poem and short story almost
everyday, and finished my first amateur novel in 2012 (I wrote a fantasy novel for a competition but I didn’t won). I join
teather club and take a part as a music arranger and script writer when I was in Junior High School (2011), and released
my first flash fiction compilation book with another writer in my club (Kelas Menulis Purbalingga : Purbalingga
Writing Class) in 2012. I realized that I had a big interest in literature.
In university, I took Arabic Literature Program because my mom live in Arab, and I want to learn Arab culture. But
in 2015, for the first time I knew about Korea. At that time maybe I just love the music and drama, but I realized there is
something more than that that took my attention; it was the language! Unconsciously, I began to learn Korean from
drama and songs lyric and I think Korean language is so beautiful to be heard. I love Kim In Yook’s poetry that
expresses a man who falls in love with a woman in the language of physics. It’s too beautiful and make me sure that I
want to learn Korean language deeper. I am officially falling in love with Korean language.
I am currently working as a customer service call agent in Shopee Indonesia. One day my friend got a call from a
Korean who can't speak Indonesian, and can only speak Korean. Me, who can speak Korean a little bit, immediately
approached my friend and wanted to help, but the phone was cut off before I took the call. Since then I think Korean
language must be learn because currently because Korean language has become a global language such as English,
Mandarin and Japanese.
The biggest problem, I think many foreigners like me who want to learn Korean feels that sometimes we didn’t
spell it correctly (like the pronunciation, the vowels, the dialect, etc). But then I realized when I learn linguistics of
Arabic, there are several linguistic laws in the pronunciation of Arabic that resemble even similar with Korean language.
Besides, as a Sundanese and Javanese (my mom was Sundanese and my dad is a Javanese, Sunda and Java is one of the
tribes in Indonesia) I also realized that there are some vowels and consonant that has the same pronunciation with
Korean language. That’s why I want to take linguistic program in Korea because I want to learn more about Korean
language and make a research about similarity of vowels and consonant between Korean language with Arabic,
Sundanese and Javanese.
The reason why I want to continue my master program in Korea, is because I want to learn Korean language and
linguistic there. But because I have financial problem, I apply this program with a hope that I could continue my master
program in Korea. I want to do a research about Easy Method to Learn Korean for Indonesian by comparing the
similarity of pronunciation between Korean language with another languages known in Indonesia (Arabic, Sundanese,
and Javanese are popular in Indonesia). I also want that research can help Korean peoples to learn Indonesian regional
language easily by comparing their language’s pronunciation with Indonesian regional languages, because I have some
Korean friends that learn Indonesian regional language (such as Sundanese and Javanese) and some of them told me
how hard it was to learn Indonesian regional languages, but they really need to learn Sundanese or Javanese because
they work in Sunda and Java area in Indonesia. That’s why I want to learn Korean language and linguistic, so I can learn
and make a research how to speak in Korean easily, correctly.
