Globalization

Globalization this masive phenomenom that is changing in a big way

most of the world, one countries that is currently affected is Colombia so
I will try to analyze how the country is part of this phenomenon and what
positive or negative things it brings. We must first recognize the concept
of globalization. Globalization is the process by which the world is
interconnected through technology and powerful infrastructure for the
purpose of communicating and managing resources, there are
numerous ways in which globalization has impacted the world today.
Some of these include modification of worldwide environment in
investment, management, machinery, policy-making, economics, and
societal conditions.

This kind of worldwide system of trade gives us both benefits and

damages so we are going to check some of them and then watch which
are having a big impact on our country and look at how this is affecting
us.

Pros
 Globalization offers a boundless opportunity for business
endeavors to develop their trade all over the world.
 Internet accessibility all over the world brings us an easy way to
communicate.
 Secondly, there could be increased competitive advantage,
through specialization and division of labor, as different countries
can specialize on what they can produce best.
 The growth of technology innovation has also been influenced by
trade on globalized scale.
 It also provides poor countries, through infusions of foreign capital
and technology, with the chance to develop economically and by
spreading prosperity.
 The internal and external conflicts of other countries try to be
solved with the help of intermediaries.

Cons
 Globalization made possible the US to rule the world with the
help of the USD as a world reserve currency.
 Globalization killed traditions of hundreds of nations and tribes.
 Globalization made corporations flourish and killed small
companies and middle class.
 It leads to increasing urbanisation, a phenomenon where
migration from rural to urban areas increases. This is due to the
perception of increased opportunities in urban areas due to
globalisation.
 Unfair working conditions many multinationals have been
accused of social injustice by exploiting labor in underdeveloped
countries in order to cut costs.
 Rapid spread of deadly diseases ,deadly diseases such as AIDS
or other communicable diseases can spread at very fast pace via
travelers or due to other means as a direct consequence of
globalization.
 Globalization can ruin local environment moving things from
one area to another wastes, oils etc
In Colombia we experience globalization day by day from the news of
the foreigner to consuming products foreign to the country such as
nutella, macdonalds etc.

It could be said that we have joined the process of globalization a long

time ago, since we requested the help of USA to solve and support some
of the needs of the country, from there I suggested that famous foreign
debt that to this day has not been paid. The great powers have us
subdued, mainly American multinationals have exploited the Colombian
soil which has generated a great environmental impact, It is assumed
that the entry of multinational states generate income for the country but
in my opinion does not compensate for the damage they produce and
the resources that are more valuable than money. A recent case where
we demonstrated that it is not impossible to face and oppose these
multinationals was the one that happened in the town of Cajamarca
where the people through popular vote decided that the work of the
multinational AngloGoldAshanti had ended and that it would not
continue to deteriorate their lands.
Without going that far in Nariño we have big producers of coffee, which
caught the attention of starbucks and now many of the coffee farms
belong to this powerful brand which opaque the local coffee business as
people prefer great brands of this name Way the cafe stops being
Colombian and it becomes cafe owned by starbucks.
My conclusion is that globalization is like a double-edged sword, has
some good intentions but similarly presents problems especially in Third
World countries, those who really take advantage of globalization are
the great powers, I think it is like a tool, which is used by these powers
to compete with each other.
