PROJECT SYNOPSIS

Introduction
This document aims to guide the student in preparing a project synopsis for ME4200
Design/Research Project. All students are expected to use this document as a template for
writing their synopsis.

The synopsis is a brief (not more than two pages for ME4200) introduction to your project
which you are expected to prepare during the early stages of your project. Write it with the
assumption that the reader is completely unaware of the problem you are planning to deal
with. Also assume that the reader is an engineer but no necessarily from you own field. So
avoid any jargon (specialised words) or assumptions of prior knowledge of the background or
the field of your project.

Under the introduction give a background within which the problem you are trying to solve
exists. Use the introduction also to show why this area of work is important to you, the
University, an industry, the country, or another entity. Giving references, the amount of
resources involved, or the number of people involved are good ways to emphasize the
importance of your area of work.

Statement of Problem
Here state clearly, the problem or problems associated with the area of work. Obviously the
link between the introduction and the problem should be clear to the reader. (Use bullet points
whenever possible.)

Objectives
Under objectives describe what you want to achieve from you project. It should be clear how
reaching the objectives will help solve the problem or problems stated above. By clearly
stating the objectives you will also make the scope of your project clear. (Use bullet points
whenever possible.)
Plan of Action
Give the plan of action and methods which you want to use in order to achieve you objectives.
It should be very clear to the reader how the plan of action leads to achieving the objectives
set out. (Use bullet points whenever possible.)

Resource Requirement
A list of resources required should come here. It is a very important aspect in engineering, to
know how to plan optimally with respect to what you can afford or look for what you need to
reach your goal. It is good if you can also state from where or how each resource is going to
be obtained.

All references to be given using the Harvard style.
