held at Donapaula (Goa) on 9th & 10th August, 2019.

The 218th Mid Term Council meeting of the Indian Roads Congress will be held at Hotel Cidade
De Goa, Donapaula, Goa on 9th & 10th August, 2019. The host of the Council meeting is Public
Works Department, Government of Goa. The Chief Patron of Local Organizing Committee (LOC)
is Hon’ble Minister, Goa PWD and Patron of LOC is Principal Chief Engineer, PWD. Contact
personnel and their telephone numbers at New Delhi and Goa are given in Appendix-1 and a
guide map of Panaji - Goa is in Appendix-2.

ABOUT Panaji
Panaji, also known as Panjim, is the State capital of Goa, in southwest India. Located on the
banks of the Mandovi River, the city has cobblestone streets lined with colorful villas and buildings
from the Portuguese colonial era. Palm-fringed Miramar Beach sits at the confluence of the river
and the Arabian Sea. Set on a hill overlooking the city is the baroque Our Lady of Immaculate
Conception Church, built in 1619.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The City of Panaji is well connected by Air, Road and Rail. The distance from Airport to
venue is 27 Kms, from Madgaon Railway Station is 36 Kms and from Panaji Bus Stand is
approx. 7 Kms.

CONNECTIVITY
Air: Dabolim Airport,Goa.
Rail: Madgaon Railway Station, Vasco Railway Station, Tivim
Railway Station, Karmali Railway Station.
Road: Panaji Bus Stand.

ACCOMMODATION
The accommodation to Council Members will be provided by the host Department from
8th August, 2019 afternoon (3.00 P.M.) to 11th August, 2019 noon provided their confirmation
is received by the Local Organizing Secretary latest by 5th August, 2019.

 TRAVEL INFORMATION
The timings of Air Services to and from Goa are given in Appendix-3. The timings of the flight
as shown in Appendix are subject to change and participants are advised to ascertain correct
timing before booking their tickets. Since a large number of participants are expected to attend
the Council Meeting in addition to the normal air passengers traffic, it is advised to book their
onward and return journeys by themselves, well in advance.

MEDICAL FACILITIES
Medical facilities will be available at the venue of the meeting.

SOCIAL AND LADIES PROGRAMME

Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is a bird sanctuary named after the ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali. The
sanctuary, located in the village of Chorão, near Panjim, plays host to rare and endangered bird
species—both migratory and resident.
Goa is famous for its beaches. Miramar, Bambolim and Dona Paula are three popular beaches
located near Panjim.
Dona Paula is the meeting point for two of Goa’s famous rivers, Zuari and Mandovi. These two
rivers meet at the Arabian Sea. The official residence of the Governor of Goa, known as Cabo
Raj Bhavan, is situated on the westernmost tip of Dona Paula.
Miramar Beach is one of the more crowded beaches in Goa, which remains full with local and
international tourists throughout the year.
Also located near Panjim, is the Goa Science Centre which was opened to the public in December
2001. The Caculo Mall is also located in St. Inez near Panjim and Mall De Goa at Porvorim.

INSPECTION TOURS
A lot of infrastructure projects are coming up in this city. Arrangements will be made to visit a
number of project sites and the places of heritage. Members interested to avail the tour may
intimate the Local Organizing Committee by 5th August, 2019.

GENERAL
Members are requested to fill up the Registration Form and Accommodation Form given in
Appendix-4 & 5 and forward the same to the addresses given thereon latest by 5th August, 2019
to avoid any inconvenience on arrival. The members are also requested to send their details
including their Contact Numbers and E-mail IDs so that latest information can be sent to them
well in time.
