Knowledge vs.

Wisdom
“Knowledge is learning something everyday. Wisdom is letting go of something everyday”

- Zen proverb

Most of the people think knowledge for wisdom, as they are quite similar in a way. But there
are some differences between them. Actually knowledge is gathering or accumulating fact,
information and data by a person through a sequential learning or experience over a period of
time. Wisdom is basically ability to judge the knowledge whether it is true or it can be
meaningful in your life. It can be gained through many positive and negative experiences
throughout life. So we can say, knowledge is a practical thing where wisdom is application of
knowledge.

Differences:

Having knowledge does not mean having wisdom. Because knowledge can be simply
acquired from a specific education or facts but wisdom cannot be acquired from any specific
learning, it is a day-to-day experience which helps to improve the ability of better
judgements. Knowledge depends on time; it should be updated with time. But wisdom is
timeless and keeps on getting better with time. Good knowledge gives good understanding
and wisdom gives better judgement. Knowledge makes better future, accelerate career and
wisdom helps to make a strong character which brings honour both in professional and
personal life.

Example:

Watching TV or spending time with smart phone can help to gain knowledge but wisdom is a
broader aspect. “Too much spending time with smart phone and TV is not good for health
because of radiation from the objects” is the wisdom of a person as the knowledge of
radiation from smartphone or TV applied here.
