The gift of the Magi

This story is one of O. Henry’s most famous stories. Given such a system of narration,

dialogue stands out with particular relief and takes on a substantial share of the effect of plot

and style. The gift of the Magi is a love story built in the most traditional way but some details

are added. The story is about a young, new york couple challenged to buy secret Christmast

gifts for each other, but the have very little money and with ironic results.

The moral value of the story is that people are willing to give up what means the most to them

for the person they love. The moral is tha selfesness and love are the greatest gifts of all.

Therefore, the moral of the story that is not the material things that matter, it is love you have

for another person, and the sacriface you are willing to make for them.
