Topic: Natural Resources


Objectives: Students will be able to
1. Develop writing and thinking skills.
2. Describe and explain the causes various natural disasters.
3. Compare the frequency of occurrence of these disasters in a particular region.
4. Develop the skill of plotting a graph.
5. Criticize the ill human practices which are responsible for these disasters.
6. Prepare them to face the aftermath of these disasters.
7. Create awareness among people regarding the infrastructure in a region prone to a certain natural disaster.
8. Locate the areas prone to the particular natural disaster.
9. Develop empathy towards the victims of these disasters.
10. Develop analytical thinking by comparing the data.

Tasks:
1. Prepare a Newspaper Article. The article should cover following points:
-Causes and effects during the occurrence of the disaster (how & why)
-Impact or aftermath of the disaster
-The technology available, if any, to measure or record and predict disaster in advance.
- List the regions or countries particularly prone or vulnerable to the disaster.
- Measures to minimize the effects.
2. Collect data related to Natural Disasters for any 5 states relevant to a) Frequency of Disasters b) Loss
of lives, in last 10 years and plot a bar graph for the same.
3. Write the ratio of frequency to loss of lives in standard form as well as in decimal form.
4. Analyze the data and give your comments
5. Write a brief description of the natural disaster you have chosen
6. What happens during the occurrence of the disaster?
7. Can the disaster be predicted in advance?
8. What is the technology available, if any, to measure or record the disaster? Particularly prone
9. Are there regions or countries particularly prone or vulnerable to the disaster?
10. On a world map, locate the areas prone to any three natural disasters.
11. What is disaster preparedness? How can people survive natural disasters? How can the impact of natural
disaster are reduced.
Specific Guidelines: 1.The word limit for the article is 300 words.
2. Each natural disaster to be covered on a separate heading followed by a paragraph on it.
3. Use A4 size paper to write a maximum 2 questions.
4. Use graph sheets for plotting bar graph.
5. Draw diagram and paste pictures wherever necessary.
6. Coloured pens can be used except red.
7. Use Physical Map of India to locate the areas
Tools: Internet support can be taken. Encyclopedia, magazines etc.

2. Summary of the story ‘Totto Chan’in Hindi. Min 200 words.
