On July 23, 2019, we visited and conduct an interview in DZXL Manila. The station
was located at 4th Floor Guadalupe Commercial Complex on Guadalupe, Makati city. We found
out that DZXL Manila was owned by RMN (Radio Mindanao Network), DZXL was one out of
66 radio stations owned by the said network. Mr. Buddy, the station manager and the one we’ve
contacted were gone out of town for a conference meeting, so the person who accommodated us
was Ms. Mitchelle, station manager OIC. She took us for a tour inside their studio, at first, we
went to Announcer’s Booth were the newscaster interact with their audience on air. Next is to
the headline room where the news writers gather the information and able to write a news that
came from different sources. Afterward, we proceed to the digital room where in they manage
their social media and controls the camera in the announcer’s booth for live feed in their
Facebook page and YouTube Channel. Lastly is to the Control Room where we met the head
engineer and conduct our interview with him. Their authorized frequency was 558kHz, he stated
that before, other network companies envied them because they cover a wide service area for the
height of transmitter antenna varies depends on the frequency and the range matters. The
meaning of their call sign is; the first letter DZ, the location and distinguish whether it is AM or
FM. XL stands for extra large which commonly gives by the company owner. The location of
antenna site is in Talipitp, Bulacan, while studio and transmitting equipment locates at
Guadalupe, Makati City. Their operating power is 40kW which issued by the NTC. In service
area, they said that the primary service area was Metro Manila, Secondary is Mega Manila and
the provinces alongside, while the intermittent usually depends on the surroundings. The
frequency bands for auxiliary transmitter were confidential in order to avoid signal jamming.
Their operating schedule was 24 hours because they are a news radio. As what we gathered in
our interview, their equipment was complete and present except for alternate main transmitter
and program log. The reason that they don’t have alternate main transmitter is because they have
skilled technician and having a non-operating transmitter is costly due to its maintenance, what
they using is transmission using telephone lines. They don’t have program logs because every
log was computerized and sends directly to their main office. This equipment includes
transmitting equipment, monitoring equipment, studio facilities, for emergency equipment and
the logs. We learned many things upon our visit in AM station, that every facilities and
equipment are important.
