ABSTRACT

Alarming issues such as over pricing of products and disposal management, especially in
the Philippines, are evident nowadays. Traditionally, rice husk or ipa is used for feeding farm
animals, specifically pigs but there are a lot of excess rice husk that are thrown away or
sometimes being burned. Same as rice husk, saw dust are also being burned due to lack of things
to do with it. Consequently, the use of suitable materials as ingredients to create corkboard, such
as rice husk, saw dust, and banana tree sap are recommended due to its ease of availability, low
cost, and lightweight characteristics. The significance of this study is to create a cost-efficient
corkboard that will be durable to last long enough to make use of rice husk, saw dust, and banana
tree sap. Three formulations were made to be compared. The best formula for the corkboard is
to mix ¼ kg of ipa and another ¼ of saw dust together. Then the banana tree sap will be added
and mixed thoroughly. Then it will be poured on a box container and be flattened to have a flat
surface. Then It will sit under the sun for 7-10 days. The three products are dropped on different
heights for durability, rated by 15 respondents for appearance, and all of its expenses computed
for its cost-efficiency, for the testing procedures. The results showed that the 2nd set up is better
because it is the only set up that withstand the fall damage of the three different heights, got a
mean of 4.6 on the rating of the 15 respondents but the most expensive among the set ups with a
price of Php 7.00. whilst, the other set ups did the opposite, not withstanding the fall damage of
the three different heights, got a mean of 0.26 on the rating of the 15 respondents. All in all the
second set up is the best among all set up including the commercial product because of its price,
even though it’s the most expensive among the set ups, the commercial product’s price is still
higher. In addition, the second set up and commercial product’s durability and ratibgs are the
same which makes the pricing of the two is the only difference between them.
