MANIPULATIVE TREATMENT OF THE CERVICAL SPINE

Osteopathic & Chiropractic Cervical Manipulation

By Philip Thomas DO BSC Hons
The Osteopathic College of Trieste is glad to present the new postgraduate seminar “Osteopathic & Chiropractic Cervical
Manipulation” given by Professor Philip Thomas.
This seminar will cover the diagnosis and the manipulative treatment methodology of the cervical spine in accordance with
the notions Osteopathy and Chiropractic have developed so far, considering their variations and their technical and conceptual
differences. Joint dysfunction is reconsidered according to the concept of tensegrity that is combined with the traditional
osteopathic and chiropractic methodology and applied to palpation, motion analysis and treatment.
The manipulative treatment of the cervical and cervicodorsal areas are analysed in details through the Chiropractic Adjustment
Techniques HVLA (High-Velocity Low-Amplitude) and the Osteopathic Minimal Lever Manipulation Techniques (Short Lever).
Furthermore another concept of osteopathic manipulation is developed, namely the Active Motion Manipulation, an active
manipulation applied to the cervical spine thanks to the employment of instrumental treatment methods like the Chiropractic
Activator and the Impulse.

Professor
Philip Thomas, DO BSC Hons, Dip Ac MICO, osteopath from Liverpool, graduated from the British College of Osteopathic
Medicine (BCOM) of London. He then pursued a master’s degree at the John Wernham College of Classical Osteopathy of
Maidstone, earning the M.I.C.O.
Afterwards he deepened the osteopathic and chiropractic techniques with famous experts such as Laurie Hartman, John
Wernham, Leon Chaitow, Leonard Faye, Simon King and many others, combining their thoughts and clinic methodology.
He is professor of Structural and Classical Osteopathy at the Osteopathic College of Trieste and he is advisor at the Northern
Society of Osteopathy in the United Kingdom.
