Admission requirements:
1. For admission to the Master’s degree program, possession of a Bachelor’s degree or it's
equivalent is required.
2. For admission to the Ph.D. Program, the M.A. /M.S. Degree (with thesis) or it's equivalent is
required. Presentation of previous research output may be required.

3. A grade point average of at least 2.0 (85% or B) with no failing marks in the undergraduate
coursework is needed to be eligible for admission to the Master’s degree program.

4. A grade point average of at least 1.75 (or it's equivalent) in the Master’s degree program is
required for one to be eligible for admission into a Ph.D. Degree program.

5. Prospective students who do not satisfy the minimum grade requirement but who pass the
Admissions Test and interview may be admitted on probation. After earning twelve (12) units of
coursework, their performance shall be evaluated by a Committee composed of the Dean,
Department Chair and a Professor representing the academic discipline, who will recommend
them for promotion to a degree program.

6. If the Applicant’s performance in any of the tests is unsatisfactory, he/she may be admitted on
probation. If the written composition is unsatisfactory and MCET is below 42 (raw score), the
student is advised to take Engl 200A – Certificate Course in English.

7. Submission of Letters of Recommendation (three for Ph.D. And two for Master’s programs)
from persons who can attest to the applicant’s capacity to pursue graduate work. The
recommenders may be former professors and/or current work supervisors.

8. International applicants have to submit the required documents specified by the International
Students Section of the university; and comply the requirements for admission to the graduate
program he/she intends to pursue. For international applicants based abroad, he/she must take the
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Test
System (IELTS) and must obtain a minimum score for both tests. The results of the examination
must be presented to the International Students Section of the University.

Course description:
The Master of Management Accounting (MMA) Program is intended to prepare the student to
meet the challenges of the ever changing demands of the Management Accounting profession. It
is a 45-unit program to be completed in two years on a trimester basis.

The MMA program is application-based which includes case studies to enhance broad business
competency and mastery of the management-level skills required to add value, drive business
performance, and build quality financial practices within organizations. The program prepares
the student in areas that are essential to analyzing, managing and evaluating business solutions
that contribute to the success of an organization. It is aligning with the CMA credential that
indicates a commitment to excellence based on a strong, ethical foundation and dedication to
lifelong learning.

The MMA program is for graduates of BSA (both CPAs and non-CPAs), BSC major in
Accountancy, BS in Management Accounting and BSBA major in Accountancy or Finance.

Objectives of the Program:

Course description:
The Master of Accountancy major in Taxation (MA-T) Program is intended to prepare the
student to meet the challenges of the ever-changing demands of the Accountancy profession,
particularly in taxation. It is a 45-unit program to be completed in two years on a trimester basis.
In line with the University’s thrust on lifelong learning, the program is targeted to municipal,
city, provincial, and government agencies accountants, BIR personnel, and tax consultants.

It includes application of national and international taxation systems in the form of cases and
actual studies. Both CPAs and non-CPAs holding undergraduate degrees in BSA, BSC major in
Accountancy, BS in Management Accounting and BSBA major in Accountancy or Finance may
apply for the program.

D. For Returning Student

1. Non – graduating returning student enrolling in the same academic program is required to
present the grades of all the subjects taken in the last term attended to the dean. This can be

2. Returning student shifting to another academic program is required to present his/her
evaluated prospectus showing the credited course

E. A Special student is one who is enrolled in a non credit course and is not eligible for any
honors or privileges. He/She may be admitted to the course which he/she wishes to attend
provided that he/she:

1. Receives the approval of the Dean for the course he/she proposes to attend

2. Signs a contract to waive the right to receive and to demand unit credit for the course. (CHED
Manual of Regulations for Private Schools, section 65, page 257)

3. Pays in full all the fees due in the course.

F. Cross-Enrollee is a student currently enrolled in another school and is taking courses in SWU.
A cross-enrollee is required to submit permit to cross enrol from the Registrar of his/her school
of origin.

admission to a master’s program.

PhD in Management
at University of San Carlos

Course description:
The Doctor of Philosophy in Management (2010 Curriculum) is specifically designed for CEOs,
Presidents, and Managers of various companies, corporations and business establishments as
well as officials in the Government. It anticipates that the graduate will continue to expand the
body of knowledge in the field, especially regarding the practice of management not just in the
Philippines but also in the whole of Asia, even the world.

The entire program consists of 60 units, including Dissertation Writing. These include 12 units of
Philosophical Foundation courses, 9 units of Research courses, 9 units of Management
Foundation courses, 18 units of Core Management courses, and 12 units of Dissertation Writing

Admission requirements:
1. A Master’s degree in Management, Business, Commerce or relevant academic discipline.

2. Graduates of non-business related programs should take 12 units of pre-requisites that are
identified in the MBA program of SY 2008-2009 before enrolling in the PhD program. These
include: Business Statistics, Accounting Principles, Macro-micro Economics and Computer
Applications in Business.

3. Graduates of non-thesis master’s degrees are required to enrol in 9 units of research courses
offered in the MBA thesis program (MBA 2978 Elements of Business Research, MBA 2988
Research Writing and MBA 2998 Thesis Counseling), produce a quality research paper, present
it to a panel of evaluators and upon passing, to enrol in the PhD program.

4. The applicant must submit a brief description of the research he/she expects to undertake at
the dissertation stage. This should include strong background knowledge and understanding of
the topic and why it is important, and some basic recognition that the topic must address
conceptual issues and not merely descriptive ones. On the basis of this the applicant will be
assigned a dissertation adviser.

5. A general point average (GPA) of 85% in master’s degree. Those below this average may be
allowed to take the entrance examination upon the approval of the Dean. However, upon passing
the entrance examination one may be admitted to the program on probationary status. Such a
student will be formally enrolled in the program upon securing a GPA of 2.0 in all subjects
enrolled on probationary status.

6. For international student applicants, submit required documents from Office of External
affairs (listings to be given by the office) and get a referral slip.
