Note: If the width between the shoulders of the rear main bearing
(journal) is 40.411 to 40.615 mm (1.5910 to 1.5990 inch) install
100-3652 Thrust Plate. If the width is 42.799 to 43.003 mm
(1.685 to 1.6930 inch) install 7N-9343 Thrust Plate.
Special Instruction SMHS7100 gives the procedure for using the
installation tools.
Cylinder Liners Timing Gears
1. Fuel Pump Drive: Torque for 1/2” bolt 105 ± 20 N·m
Bore in liner (New) 120.68 ± 0.03 mm (4.751 ± 0.001 inch) (Sleeve Metering Fuel System) (77 ± 15 lb ft)
Use again maximum 120.78 mm (4.755 inch) Torque for 5/8” bolt (Scroll Fuel System) 215 ± 40 N·m

Flywheel

Put liquid soap on bottom liner bore in block, on grooves in lower liner, 4. Torque for flywheel bolts 215 ± 40 N·m
and on o-rings. Install o-rings on liner. Put filler band in engine oil. (158 ± 29 lb ft)
Immediately install filler band on liner and install liner in cylinder block.

Piston, Rings and Connecting Rods


Installation Tool Required

5P-3525 Piston Ring Compressor
Lubricate Piston Assembly and bearings with clean engine oil.
Ring gaps must minimum of 90o apart.
Note: Put connecting rod in the piston with the slot for the bearing tab
on the same side as the "V" mark on the piston. Put piston in cylinder
block with "V" mark in alignment with "V" mark on cylinder block.
Crankshaft Pulley and Vibration Damper
1. Tighten bolt holding pulley to crankshaft to 370 ± 50 N·m
(270 ± 35 lb ft)
Hit bolt with hammer and again tighten bolt to 370 ± 50 N·m
(270 ± 35 lb ft)

Cylinder Head
Note: Put 6V-4876 Molykote Paste Lubricant on threads and washer
faces of bolts 1 thru 26. Tighten bolts in the following Step sequence: Valve Clearance
Step 1. Tighten bolts 1 thru 26 in a numerical 150 ± 15 N·m
sequence to (110 ± 11 lb ft)
Step 2. Again tighten bolts 1 thru 26 in a 250 ± 17 N·m
numerical sequence to (185 ± 13 lb ft)
Step 3. Again tighten bolts 1 thru 26 in a 250 ± 17 N·m
numerical sequence (hand torque only) to (185 ± 13 lb ft)
Step 4. Tighten bolts A thru G in letter 43 ± 7 N·m
sequence (hand torque only) to (32 ± 5 lb ft) Exhaust 0.64 ± 0.08 mm (0.025 ± 0.003 inch)
Intake 0.38 ± 0.08 mm (0.015 ± 0.003 inch)

Flywheel Housing Tighten all bolts in number sequence to 16 ± 3 N·m

2. Maximum permissible "run out' (axial 0.30 mm
eccentricity) of the flywheel housing face. (0.012 inch)

Exhaust Manifold
Note: Put 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on threads of bolts and studs.
1. Torque for studs 25 ± 4 N·m
(20 ± 3 lb ft)
2. Torque for nuts holding exhaust manifold 47 ± 9 N·m
(35 ± 7 lb ft)
3. Torque for bolts holding turbochargers 47 ± 9 N·m
(35 ± 7 lb ft)

Turbocharger
1. Put turbocharger gasket on exhaust manifold.
2. Put 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on bolt’s threads that hold
turbocharger to exhaust manifold.
3. Install turbocharger on exhaust manifold. Tighten nuts to a torque of
55 ± 10 N·m (40.5 ± 7 lb ft).
