WHY IS THIS PROJECT HELD :
Food wastage has been the one of the main issues in our
society. People who are inconsiderate and irresponsible create a
whole lot of food wastage that could have been fed to millions
who are starving and living in poverty. In a year, 1.3 billion tons of
food have been wasted which is the equivalent to 7000 times of
weight of the Empire State Building.

Based on the picture above, we notice a man inconsiderately

dumping perfectly edible food into the bin. This happens every 8
seconds in restaurant all around the world according to several
studies.

The aim of this project is to reduce the excessive amount of

food waste produced in the world. We will convinced students
that have not yet to realize this big issue which have been causing
a headache havoc to the authorities. This should be taught at
school level so that in future when the students become adults in
the society they will play their role in reducing food waste at their
respective workplaces and homes.
OBJECTIVES :
1. To obtain a record of the volume of food wastage and
types of food wastage in the period of 3 months.
2. Prepare a module sample and an end report about the
steps taken to decrease food wastage in schools.
3. To educate students, teachers and staffs of the school
of ways to separate food wastage responsibly.
4. The school will be influenced by this habit of
decreasing food waste among students and teachers.
5. To make composition easier in the future with more
modernize machines.
IMPLICATIONS IF PROJECT IS NOT
CARRIED OUT :
Well… The implications? The world is going to be a
disaster. Thousands who choose to turn their backs on this
issue will continue to waste tons of food. This can lead to
an uncivilized society full with many ignorant people.
World hunger usually is the first thing that comes to
mind when the subject of food waste is brought up. Over a
billion people are affected by world hunger everyday and
instead of donating the leftovers on your plate people tend
to throw all away. Landfills are overfilled. People are still
suffering. Nothing is solved.
A study in the U.K. found that eliminating all food
waste would be the equivalent of getting 1 in 4 cars off the
road. Food waste that decompose requires lots of oxygen
and lets out lots of carbon dioxide. Other than that, food
wastage that end up in landfills will rot and produce foul
liquids, odours and methane which a greenhouse gas 21
times more potent than carbon dioxide.

Methane can cause global warming which can lead to

sudden rise in temperature and cause icebergs to melt in
polar oceans and wildfires. If around 30 million food waste
are added to landfills every year, imagine the amount of
methane that will be produced.
If tons of food is decomposing everyday combines
with the smoke from millions of factories and cars, just
imagine how terribly affected the Earth would be by global
warming.
Global warming will cause many issues. From the
destruction of flora and extinction of fauna, especially the
cute and innocent polar bears to the horrifying rise in
temperature, global warming is a big issue that many
scientists have been finding ways to prevent it and food
wastage is one of the main causes.
Project Implementations:
Our plan for this project is to plant our ideas into
students, teachers and staff minds so that they can adapt
this habit to not waste food. We have discussed these
ideas as a group and hope that it change the world.
Our main action is to open 4 booths first and
experiment it on 3 classes from Form 3 (Our guinea pigs)
and see the sustainability in it. If everything is successful
and the amount of food waste decreases, we shall proceed
and add 4 more booths for more students. We will be
testing on the whole Form 3 and Form 4. As we have
limited man power sources, we are forced to only do it to
two forms. However we will not only be specifically
recording the Form 3 and Form 4 students but also take
the weight of the total food waste from the whole school
including students, teachers and staffs.
We will do public speeches in order to encourage the
students and teacher. In the speeches, we will explain the
value of how just throwing food waste into a compost bin
can change the world. According to several studies, talking
about the negative effects will encourage people to do
more positive as they realize how badly it can affect them.
Therefore, we can also explain how badly food waste can
harm the world.
Furthermore, there will be bins that are specialized
for the food waste, they will learn to seperate them.
The waste will be separated into two categories, which
consists of compostable waste and non-compostable
waste. By composing the waste, it will be more
environmental friendly and also it will benefit to both the
school and the environment.

PROJECT REPORT:
DATE : 11 JANUARY 2018
PROJECT : MANAGEMENT OF FOOD WASTAGE

This project provides a worldwide account of the

environmental footprint of food wastage along the food
supply change, focusing impacts on climate, water, land
and biodiversity, as well as an economic quantifications
based on producer prices.
The biodiversity impacts of food wastage have only
been estimated semi-quantitatively, by identifying the
regions where the food production is likely to have the
greatest impacts on biodiversity. Further research would
be needed to clarify the biodiversity impacts of food
throughout the supply chain this including trade issues.

Following is our work table of implementation:

13 January-14 January : The weight of the trash bins
around
the school will be weighed and
recorded.
15 January : A speech will be given to the school to educate
the
students and teachers to learn to compost.

16 January : We will start the project by weighing the food

waste of the Form 3 students by setting up 4
booths as an experiment. We will use 3 classes
in form 3 to be the “Guinea Pigs” of the
experiment
followed by recording the weight of the waste.
(From the day onwards, our group
members will
stay back after every recess to weigh the
food waste.)
22 January : Beginning of this week, if the amount of
food waste decreases, more booths will be opened
for the specific weighing sessions for more
classes,
so that both teachers, students and can help out
more.
17 March : (Stops the session of educating and record the
amount of waste in school for month.)

EFFICIENCY OF THIS PROJECT:

By carrying out this project, we will start to influence
students, teachers and staff on how to manage food waste.
They can then spread the message on how important it is
to other people and influence them.
As more and more people get influenced by this habit,
food wastage can be use for the better such as natural
fertilizer. Natural fertilizer is full with nutrients that can
improve the soil’s fertility, texture, structure and moisture.
Food wastage that end up in landfills will rot and produce
foul liquids, odours and methane which a greenhouse gas
21 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
Other than that, we must educate them about the
dangers of methane. Methane can cause global warming
which can lead to sudden rise in temperature and cause
icebergs to melt in polar oceans and wildfires. If around 30
million food waste are added to landfills every year,
imagine the amount of methane that will be produced.
This project is aimed to reduce food wastage in
schools. Our idea is a way that can minimize the food
wastage in schools.

SUSTAINABILITY OF THE PROJECT:

Through this project, we can make sure that our idea
will be implemented into our and other schools. The
system of our ideas are organized whether it is done by
machines or manually.
We will continue by
CONCLUSION :
We hope that FAM will consider taking in our ideas for
reducing the food waste. We are really sincere on this
matter of food wastage. The thought of millions who are
starving while we are enjoying our lives and taking most
for granted is bothering and it must be changed for a
better future.
We also hope that our ideas may
