Bearing Plate Stress Check for 27 MTAI 15 system

Bearing plate of 395mm x 395mm size is checked for stresses due to eccentricity of 6.5mm
under a prestressing force of 561.6 MT from 27 MTAI 15 anchorage system.

Finite element analysis facilitates the accurate analysis of behavior of the plate under
combined bending and shear stresses.

Finite Element Analysis of Bearing Plate:

Thickness of plate considered = 60mm

Yield stress = 350 MPa

The stress transfer in the eccentric region occurs through shear (critical criterion).

Eccentricity in plate = 6.5mm

Allowable shear stress = 0.3 Yp = 0.3 x 350 = 105 MPa

(Annex. B of IS 4623: 2000 gives allowable stress limit of 0.3 Yp for plates used in trunnion
thrust blocks that are subjected to shear. The same limit is used here for safety)

Loading on plate for 27 MTAI 15 system = 561.6 MT = 5616 kN

Tensa MTAI Anchor head size for loading = 250mm

Finite Element Analysis of the bearing plate system is carried out in ANSYS.
Maximum shear stress in the zone of eccentricity = 99.623 MPa (yellow range in the legend)

< 105 MPa

Hence, additional bearing plate of size 60mm or above transfers the prestressing force
with sufficient safety.

Bearing plate of 60mm thickness maybe also used for transfer of loads in 19 MTAI 15
system.
