How to read Dashamsha Chart (D-10)

How to read Dashamsha Chart (D-10)

This is a sequel to my earlier article on Profession.People are frequently asking me to look into their chart
for their career graph, like promotion, increment, transfers etc. This is my endeavour to simplify the
matter so that any individual can easily decode D-10.But this does not mean that you get all the details of
your profession by D-10 alone and therefore you may still have to consult your astrologer for an in depth
analysis.
The 10th House represents the ‘Karma’ or ‘Profession. Planets in 10th House, planets aspecting 10th
House, 10th Lord and planets aspecting it and the Navamsha dispositor of 10th Lord decide your
profession. The nature and Tatwa of the sign of 10th House also gives us a clue about profession.
Karakamsha (Navamsha of Atma Karaka) also gives us some information. Similarly, understanding the
nature of planets which become significator for profession and the planets exerting influence on these
planets is necessary.
Dasamsha or one-tenth part of the Rashi Kundali represents the Profession and is to be used for detailed
analysis while profiling one’s career. After you have extracted all the information from Rashi chart then
only proceed to D-10. What I have discussed is general in nature and I have tried to keep the content
simple to understand by budding astrologers.
Important: D-10 is to be analysed as chart by itself
Following are the likely results of the analysis of D-10.
 Lagna Lord in Own House / exalted – Good job.
 Karakas for profession, namely Sun, Saturn and Mercury, if any one of them in own house – Good
job.
 Sun in own house / exalted – good job and will become a good leader in politics.
 Sun or Saturn in Upachaya (3,6,10 and 11) – Good job
 9th Lord in 9th House – Success in profession.
 Venus alone in 8th House – Lucky and excellent success in profession.
 7th Lord of D-1 /D-10 in own house or exalted – Very good progress in profession.
 10th Lord of D-1 / D-10 in own house / exalted –Very good job.
 Lagna Lord, 6th Lord and 9th Lord of D-1 / D10 Lords, if any one of them is debilitated –No success
in profession.
 Lagna Lord in 9th / 9th Lord exalted – Business (Self employed)
 If Capricorn has malefics – Indulge in bad / evil /illegal profession.
 Rahu in Lagna – Temporary jobs / frequent transfers/ bad prospects in profession
 If Lagna has any two planets, namely, Moon, Mercury, Jupiter or Venus – will become Jyothishis,
Veda Pundits or Sanskrit scholars.
 From Moon Lagna, if 6th and 9th house has association with Sun and Saturn –Quarrel with
superiors and hence uncertainty in profession
 10th House / 10th Lord associated with Saturn – Unemployment / dismissal from service.
 10th House / Lord or Karakas like, Saturn, Sun are associated with a debilitated planet – Greedy,
infamy and goes to jail on bribery charges.
 D-1 Yogakaraka in Lagna or aspecting Lagna – Raja yoga in profession.
 If 2nd, 9th, 10th and 11th Lord are together – Will reach top in business.
 During Dasha / Bhukti of Benefic planets in Kendra – Promotion and success.
 During Dasha / Bhukti of Malefics planets in Kendra- Setback, demotion, disgrace etc.
 During Dasha / Bhukti of planets in Trikona – assistance / help from friends and well wishers
 During Dasha / Bhukti of planets which are powerless, malefic or debilitatated occupying 10th
House – Lot of difficulties in profession.
Author’s Note
This is as simple as it can get. Everyone is interested to know their future profession and this is also a
guide to their education or specialisation in their college studies. This should be used as a guide only and
do not try to take decisions based only on this. As stated earlier, please consult your astrologer for
detailed analysis.

Shiva / Agni Vasa

I am not much into Mahurtha since I firmly believe that 100% correct Mahurtha is impossible and always
there has to be a compromise. I have been approached by some Mahurtha enthusiasts that I should explain
the methodology of knowing Shiva and Agni Vasa. The details are as follows.
Shiva Vasa
First Method
See the Table below for quick reference.
Tithis Shiva’s Place Result
1, 8 & 15 In Cemetery Death
2, 9 & 30 With Gowri Happiness & Wealth
3 & 10 In assembly Grief
4 & 11 At work / play Difficulty
5 & 12 At Kailash Happiness
6 & 13 Mounted on Vrishabha (Nandi) Success
7 & 14 At Dinner / Meditation Trouble (Peeda)

Note: During the month of Shravana, for routine Pooja, these may be ignored

Second Method.
How to calculate Shiva Vasa for Rudrabhisheka
Step 1
Start from Shukla Paksha and determine the number of Thithis elapsed.
Step 2
Multiply the number by 2
Step 3
Add 5 to the product
Step 4
Divide the sum by 7
Step 5
Note down the remainder
Remainder 1 – At Kailash
Remainder 2 – with Gowri
Remainder 3 – Mounted on Vrishabha (Nandi) – auspicious
Remainder 4 – In assembly
Remainder 5 – At Dinner / Meditation – auspicious
Remainder 6 – At work / play
Remainder 7 – In Cemetery

Example
Today, 23 July 2014 is Ashada Krishna Dwadhashi.
From Shukla Paksha, it 15 days + 12 days. Total is 27.
Multiply by 2. The product is 54
Add 5 and the resultant is 59
Divide by 7. The remainder is 3
Therefore Shiva is mounted on Nandi which is auspicious and suitable Mahurtha.
Agni Vasa
1. For all Havan, Homa and Yagna as part of Muhurtha calculations the Agni Vasa is checked.
2. All Auspicious Yagna, Havan, Homa are to be done only during Shukla Paksha i.e. from Amavasya to
Poornima.
3. Hence the counting starts from Pratipath (First day after Amavasya).
Example
Important homa to be performed on Thursday, 31 July 2014.
Thithi on that day – Shukla Paksha Chaturthi
Total no of Days = 4
Add 1 to it = 4+1 =5
The day falls on Thursday. Hence from Sunday it is 5th day
Total the two: 5+5 = 10
Reduce 4 from the above 10-4 = 6
Divide the same by 3; 6/3 and get the reminder.
The reminder 6 divided 3 = 0.
If the reminder is 0 – Agni is in Bhoo Loka (Earth).
If the reminder is 1 or 2 – Agni resides in Patala Loka (Below Earth)

Implications:
If the Agni resides in Bhoo Loka (Earth) – Favourable
If the Agni resides in Patala Loka (Below Earth) – It is not Favourable.

Jupiter’s Transit into Cancer

Gurubyo Namaha
Jupiter’s Transit into Cancer

Jupiter is transiting from Gemini to Cancer on 19th June 2014 and it will remain in Cancer for about a year,
till 14th July 2015 to be precise. During this period Jupiter will be in his house of Exaltation. Jupiter is also
known as “Lord of the Fortune” and in Vedic Astrology it is considered as a Shubha or a benefic planet and
powerful amongst all the planets. He is capable of warding off the evil results and bestowing prosperity and
contentment to the native. Jupiter is Guru or Teacher of Devatas and been conferred the title of “Devaguru”.

Jupiter takes about 12 years to complete cycle of 12 zodiac signs. It stays for about a year in each sign.
Whenever Jupiter moves in to 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th houses from the Janmarashi it gives good results.
We can say that the native hasGurubala. Just as the guru removes the problems of the devotees, the planet
Guru brings fortune for most people across the board. The placement of Guru in the 9th house is extremely
beneficial. The person with a 9th House Guru will overcome all problems and become successful in a
miraculous way.

Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system, and its symbolism bears this out. Jupiter is the principle of
expansion: expanding the mind to super conscious realms and philosophy, expanding our physical horizons
through long journeys, and expanding the physical body through putting on weight (or just plain being
large).

Jupiter is a planet of manifestation. If well placed by sign or house or well aspected it can signify subtle
understanding of life’s deeper principles, learning through travel or higher education, general good fortune
or luck, and material abundance. If poorly placed or afflicted it symbolizes indiscriminate sensuality, self-
indulgence, wastefulness, greed, avarice, and wanderers. Jupiter rules Sagittarius and Pisces where it
embodies all the planet’s positive aspects, and is eCancerà in Cancer where it expands the nurturing,
mothering principle.

Jupiter is the significator for wealth, children, education, religion, prosperity, fame, gain, good marital order,
providential help, political power, good luck, finances and long journeys. As regards health, Jupiter rules:
blood, liver, arteries, thighs, neck, weight problems, diabetes, cataract, intoxication, biliousness and
cholesterol.

While interpreting the result of the transit, the following points must be borne in mind.

Reference Point
The reference or starting point is the Janmarashi or the sign in which the Moon is posited in the natal chart.
There are many astrologers who advocate interpretation with reference to Lagna or Ascendant but the
classical texts recommend using Janmarashi only.

Lordship of Jupiter in Natal Chart:

It is important that we should identify the lordship of Jupiter in the natal chart before we set out to make any
predictions. For example, for a native whose Ascendant is Pisces and Janmarashi is Capricorn, June 2014
transit should be interpreted to give specific results pertaining to the Karakatwa of First House and Tenth
House apart from the general prediction given above of Jupiter being in the 7th house during transit.
Dasha and Bhukti:
Whatever interpretation we arrive at using above method must be corroborated by the Dasha and Bhukti
currently running for the native. If the Dasha and Bhukti is not favourable then the results thus predicted
may not come true.

Author’s Note:
The transit interpretation though appears very simple; it involves in-depth analysis of afflictions,
retrogression and ownership of Dusthanas / Bad Houses of Jupiter in natal chart as well
as Veda(Obstruction) to Jupiter in Transit and the result obtained from the transit of other powerful planet,
namely Saturn. Notwithstanding all these, Jupiter being the most benefic planet will normally not harm any
native unless he is highly afflicted. As stated earlier Jupiter is the promoter par excellence, and we wish that
all mankind receive his blessings for peace and harmony.
