- Both an art and a science


- Demonstrate the humanistic aspect of care that form the core of nursing philosophy and which are
universally accepted as basic elements of quality care (KSA) and (TLC)
- Comprehensive in scope (promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative functions)
- It is individualized. Realizing the uniqueness of the client, so needs are according to identified needs
- Provides holistic care; physical, emotional and spiritual needs are provided
- Provides skillful ministration; dexterity in performing nursing and medical procedures
- Mutual, dynamic and active interchange of actions to be taken
- Efficient; realizes the limitations of resources therefore aims to achieve the desired result at least cost in
terms of the nurse resources and the client’s
- Focuses on nursing concerns and responsibilities, independent function rather than dependent one, puts
primacy on the nursing care plan rather than medical plan
- Maintenance of high standards of care and delivery of quality nursing care at all times
- Realizes limitation, that she cannot meet all the health needs or solve all the health and health related
problems of the client
- Aware of her functions and utilizes the expertise of other member of the health team
- Appreciate the importance of leading an exemplary personal life and a role model of healthful living

Definition of Caring

- Using the other person to satisfy one’s needs.


- The meaning should not be confused with such meaning as wishing well, liking, comforting, and
maintaining, or simply having an interest in what happens to other.
- It is not an isolated feeling or momentary relationship or simply a matter of wanting to care.
- Caring, as helping another grow and actualizes himself.
- Caring Is a process, a way of relating to someone that involved development, mutual trust and deepening
and qualitative transmit ion of relationship.

Carative Elements

- Humanistic altruistic behavior – the individual’s ability to be in touch with reality and give self in service
to others. Being generous of self without counting the cost.
- Faith and Hope – the adherence to what is good and real, personified in our Creator .
