1.0 GENERAL

1.1. SCOPE OF SPECIFICATION

This specification defines the site location, site climatic data, site access, site
conditions and accommodations.

2.0 LOCATION

2.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Yanacocha Mine Site is located in the north east part of Peru, approximately 25
kilometers north of Cajamarca.

Cajamarca, Peru Latitude: 6º - 58¨South

Longitude: 78º - 29’10¨ West

Site Altitude : 4100 m (above MSL)

2.2 TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES AND ROAD ACCESS

The minesite is accessible by road from Cajamarca, with approximately 16


kilometers of paved road and 17 kilometers of gravel road. The road provides
year round access.

Maximum highway traffic load length is 29.9 m. Maximum load size and
weight are limited by the following two bridges that are located on the
highway to Salaverry.

Rail transport is not available to the minesite.

The nearest airport is at Cajamarca, which provides daily connections to Lima.

The ports utilized by Minera Yanacocha for ocean shipments are primarily
Salaverry, but also Callao and Paita.

Salaverry port accepts vessels with draught of up to up to 10 m. and has dock


crane capacity of up to 15.000 kg. Wharf length is 230 m. long and suitable
for vessels up to (Later) t (dwt).

2.3 ACCOMMODATION

Visitors to the mine site may find accommodation in Cajamarca, or subject to


Minera Yanacocha approval, at the minesite.

3.0 METEROLOGICAL DATA

Average monthly temperatures : 0.4º C min. To 22.4ºC max.

Ground snow load. 20 kg/m2

Design snow load. 100 kg/m2

Wind, maximum velocity : 120 km/h


(Variable prevailing wind direction)

Precipitation : Average annual 1598 mm

Average Daily Precipitation (Oct. to April) 6.35 mm

Average Daily Precipitation (May to Sep.) 1.67 mm

Maximum daily (24 h/100 yr storm) 175 mm

Electrical, lighting and thunder storms occur in the hills surrounding the mine site.
Adequate protection of personnel and equipment is required.

Local flooding and run-offs can occur under heavy rainfall.

5.0 FLAMABILITY HAZARDS

The plant design shall be in accordance with NFPA standards, applicable local codes
and regulations, and Owner’s broker insurance requirements

6.0 RESTRICTIONS

6.1 SAFETY

Safety is a paramount requirement for all personnel on site. No person may enter the
site without approved attire and training.

Latest edition of Minera Yanacocha SRL safety procedure – Manual de Control de


Perdidas, is available on request. Safety procedures, instructions and training are
available at the site.

6.2 SECURITY

Access will be granted only to those having proper authorization.

6.3 ENVIRONMENTAL

The latest edition of Minera Yanacocha SRL environmental procedures – Manual de


Politicas y Procedimientos Ambientales shall be rigorously followed.

The environmental procedures are available on request.

7.0 UTILITIES AND SERVICES

7.1 ELECTRIC POWER

Power will be distributed throughout the plant site at 4160 and 480 volts, 3 phase, 3 wire, and
220 volt single phase.

7.2 WATER SUPPLY

Fresh water for plant operation is received from deep wells and distributed throughout the
plantsite.

7.3 COMPRESSED AIR

Plant service air and instrument air source pressure is 760 kPa (110 psig).
