AFTER-SCHOOL ART CAMP SUMMARY

Objective
The After-School Art Camp is an all-inclusive camp dedicated to social and personal development for all ages and
skill levels. Each workshop encompasses unique activities that do not rely on a traditional academic atmosphere
or expectations. This unconstrained creativity allows participants to utilize their inner voice during the creative
process.

Goals
The goal of the After-School Art Camp is to provide fun activities that reduce anxiety and increase confidence, a
sense of independence, self-discovery, and problem solving skills using artistic solutions. Participants have the
opportunity to communicate using visual language vs. limitations of verbal/written language.

WORKSHOP THEMES

(Classes range from 2-3 hours depending on the complexity of the project. Each workshop is designed to be self-
paced and open-ended. Additional materials will be provided in case anyone needs to finish their project from
home.)

1. Prehistoric Cave Drawing Project: each participant will design their own cave drawing using natural materials,
pastels, and techniques originally used at Lascaux, Altamira, and caves all over the world.

2. Mythical Animal Project: each participant will design and assemble their own mythical animal using collage,
photographs, drawings, and other materials. These animals may be used to represent the participant’s
strengths, special interests, and personality. (Art history references: Ancient Near Eastern art, Ancient
Egyptian art, Medieval art)

3. Papermaking & Hieroglyphs Project: each participant will learn how to make paper and design a custom
bookmark on papyrus paper using the Egyptian Hieroglyphic alphabet. (Art history references: Ancient
Egyptian art, cuneiforms, and the creation of ancient writing systems)

4. Color Collage: each participant will learn basic color theory and design a collage using colors they find calming
or that reflects their current mood. (Artist/art history references: Albert Munsell, Mark Rothko, Fauvism, Color
Field Movement, Symbolist Movement)

5. Soft Sensory Project: each participant will collage a work of art using soft textures or other materials
associated with comfort (ex: yarn, felt, cotton/batting, pompoms). (Artist/art history references: Mike Kelley,
Anna Ray, Textile/Fiber Art, Sheila Hicks)

6. Coat of Arms Project: each participant will piece together and color in a custom Coat of Arms to represent
themselves and/or their family. The collection of symbols may be used to represent their strengths, interests,
and ideas. (Art History references: Medieval art and visual language of Heraldry)

7. Memory Project: each participant will design and assemble an artwork based on objects of memory that they
associate with family and friends. Participants are encouraged to bring physical objects to inspire unique
ideas. The goal is to recreate a personal memory with a variety of art materials; they do not need to use any
physical personal objects in the artwork. Photographs and other personal materials may be copied and used
for collaging.

WORKSHOP COST
The success of the class is often determined by the time spent preparing materials, cutting/assembling examples,
and preparing workshop kits for each participant. Prices of classes may vary due to supply cost, venue cost, and
complexity of the workshop. The schedule of the activities is to be determined by Kosakowski Studio and may be
constructed as weekly or monthly events.
