INTRODUCTION
The largest transfer of wealth of our lifetime is
WELCOME!

happening now!

A After you read this guide, you will never see the world the same again. I invite
you to identify the marvelous opportunities and the enormous

threats that the Digital Age brings to the next generation.

The new economy will inevitably impact your career and your future.

This is no joke! We can’t ignore this anymore!

In fact, I often write about this subject in Quora.com. If you’ve been following me, you
will notice that I'm not joking around when I emphatically declare:

”Ignorance will be the #1 source of poverty in the decades to come.”

Ignorance?

I refer to the blindness we have of how the world has changed.

What is this Digital Age?

It's an “invisible" technological force moving globally, changing every industry, job, social
structures, government, economies... even warfare in unprecedented ways.

Most say that the world is changing, but the truth is that the world HAS CHANGED.
The Industrial Age is out, and the Digital Age is here.

Some call this the Forth Industrial Revolution or the Information Age, whatever it is, we
all have a decision to make:.

You can adapt and thrive to this new economy, or cling to the old dying system.

Its YOUR decision!

The Digital Age brings along unique opportunities. Opportunities to work in growing
WELCOME!

industries, not declining ones. Opportunities to thrive leveraging the new rules of work and
wealth.

So, how can we understand this “Digital Age?”

Here a quick example:

• In the Agrarian Age, wealth originated from nature.

• In the Industrial Age, wealth originated from machines.

• In the Digital Age, wealth originates from information and knowledge.

Other differences:

• The Agrarian Age was all about selling the fruit of your land.

• The Industrial Age was all about selling the physical goods from your machines.

• The Digital Age is all about selling information, knowledge and your problem-solving
abilities.

Some real-life examples:

• Uber, the world’s largest taxi company, owns no vehicles.

• Google the most extensive information source in the world, doesn't create any
information.

• Facebook, the world’s most prominent media business, creates no content.

• Alibaba, the most valuable retailer, owns no inventory.

• Wikipedia, the vastest encyclopedia in history has no editors.

• Airbnb, the world’s largest accommodation provider, owns no real estate.

Here’s the best news! You don’t need to be a mathematical genius or an Ivey League
College student to thrive in this new economy.
WELCOME!

It's about who masters the key skills and position themselves to be in the right place at the
right time.

So, how can I prepare to position myself to be in “the right place at the right time”?

By predicting the future!

I know you’re thinking… “Ok, Hector, you are nuts!”

No my friend! While we can't predict specific future events, but we can identify trends by
studying how technologies are advancing.

By having access to the right information and knowledge we may focus our efforts to catch
the next disruptive waves of change.

We all have questions:

• What are the best opportunities for me?

• Which are the most significant threats standing on my way?

• What are the skills I need to develop to be successful in the future?

• What should I study in College?

YOU HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS!

Are you joking Hector?

No! I’m NOT joking! You have the answers; nobody else can or should give you these
answers! Whoever offers you a “secret formula” is a liar and a deceiver! RUN AWAY!

EDUCATION IN THE DIGITAL AGE: T O P 1 0 Q U E S T I O N S

Now stop and reread those questions.

Understand that YOU are unique! Your abilities are UNIQUE and different from others. You
should protect and embrace your uniqueness. What works for you won't work for your dad,
brother, sister, teachers, heroes, friends; whoever!
WELCOME!

• So how can we get those answers?

• That's my job and my #1 goal!

• But, how are you going to do this Hector?

• By giving you a gift. The gift of perspective!

HERE’S MY POINT: Only you can make the best decisions that best suit you. Only you
know what you want. You know the answers. You have them in our heart, but you cant get
these answers because you are now uninformed!

Today you cant see these answers because you lack perspective.

Let me explain with an analogy:

Imagine you’re in the middle of the rainforest.

Where do you go? North? South? Maybe East or West?

It's utterly impossible to find the "best" way out!

Correct?

To find the best way OUT of the jungle you need:

1. A map to get the perspective of where you want to go.

2. A compass to identify the direction where to move on.

3. A guide to teach you how to survive.

Now STOP for a moment and read that again…

Please never forget this lesson in your lifetime!

In the Digital Age, we all need:

1. Filtered Information.

2. Leverage Tools.
WELCOME!

3. Knowledge Skills.

To survive you need the three of them!

If you lack any one of these and you will suffer the
pains of disruption!

That’s what DigitalAgeEducation.com is all about.

In this document, you will get answers to the top 10

questions parents, and students ask while attempting
to focus their efforts to the future.

I understand the uncertainty. We all need answers. We

all need information to make the correct decisions.
I’ve been there.

Its all about collaboration, we all need to help each

other.

1- How technology is
transforming our world?
QUESTION ONE

MATERIAL SCIENCE:

A material-science revolution is happening now that will impact all fields of technology and
every aspect of our lives.

Today materials scientists are engineering smart, innovative materials with properties not found
in nature.

Innovative materials represent opportunities in energy, transportation, medicine, electronics,

sensors and digital manufacturing with 3D printing to name a few.

Breakthroughs are accelerating as scientists use machine learning systems to accelerate

discovery.

New fabrication tools now allow atomic adjustment to the material properties leading to the
creation of materials like graphene that is 200 times stronger than steel by weight, and materials,
which can absorb, enhance and bend electromagnetic waves.
New materials will enable lighter,
stronger vehicles. Advanced
metals allow new jet engine
development.
Biomaterials substitute human
joints, and nanomaterials are
bringing break-throughs in energy
storage and quantum computers.

AR & VR

Virtual Reality creates experiences that

include sight, sound, and touch.
QUESTION ONE

VR creates computer-generated images that

appear on a headset. Facebook surprised the
tech world by buying Oculus Rift VR system
for $2 billion in March 2014 confirming the
future this technology represents.

VR will impact everything from real estate,

retail, healthcare, and education. Business
meetings, conferences, and concerts will soon
all be experienced in virtual environments.

Many students struggle with the disconnect

between books and the world around them.
Virtual reality bridges that gap by making
these experiences real. Imagine, how science
teachers could take their students to another
galaxy or shrink them down and show them
chemical reactions on the molecular scale.

A related technology to VR and commonly

confused is Augmented Reality. AR merges
digital images on top

3D PRINTING
3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, is the process of forming a three-dimensional
object, printed layer by layer that originated from a digital file.

3D printer heads extrude tiny amounts of

material in exact locations forming objects
from the bottom up.

Today 3D printers can utilize over 250

different materials like titanium, rubber, plas-
tics, glass, ceramic, leathers and even
chocolate.

3D printers can create very complex

structures and mix diverse materials. Applications can be from machine parts, jewelry, medical
prosthetics and even houses.

3D printing will transform the entire manufacturing rules. Customization and complexity are
unlimited. Even large-scale manufacturing is no problem.

3D Printing saves costs to manufacturing businesses by eliminating waste and reducing needs
of inventory.

Ultimately, 3D printing will change manufacturing as we know it impacting millions of jobs.

3D printing is on the road to disrupt many industries.

3- Why is it important to be aware

of exponential technologies?
QUESTION THREE

Case study: KODAK

K odak was founded by George Eastman and Henry A. Strong in 1888. During most

business. 100 years later, in 1996 Kodak was still the global leader with a market cap of $28
Billion and about 140,000 employees.

Kodak began to struggle financially as a result of the decline in sales of photographic film. In
2012 Kodak filed for bankruptcy victim of the digital camera.

Dangers of ignoring exponential change!

QUESTION THREE

How can we visualize exponential growth when we understand only in linear terms?

Let me give you an analogy:

If we take 30 steps in a room we can easily predict where

we will end. Now… take 30 exponential steps, its equivalent
to 26 roundtrips around the world!

Copyright © 2017 –All Rights Reserved
EDUCATION IN THE DIGITAL AGE: T O P 1 0 Q U E S T I O N S

Why is this important to understand?

We think and understand things linearly.
QUESTION THREE

Exponential technologies are deceptive and easily ignored. The graph below shows what
happened to Kodak.

The red color indicates the deceitful phase. We can see how new technologies can be "un-der
the radar" and shows no threat until - BOOM!

When a technology matures, this is when exponentials kick in. Once in the disruptive phase, the
technology becomes unstoppable. The consequences are sudden and severe.

Training our brains to visualize exponential technological trends is a critical ability to develop
in the Digital Age.

This is what we MUST be watching for:

Once a product or service becomes digitized, it moves on an exponential curve, and its
disruptive impact will be speedy and irreversible!

Can you see it? Once a product or service becomes data (Digital) it moves on an exponential
curve!

Why is exponential growth happening

TODAY?
QUESTION THREE

Gordon Moore predicted in 1965 that computer chips would double in performance every 18-24
months while reducing its cost at a similar rate. This phenomenon is essential to understand
because this trend is affecting virtually every technology worldwide.

Take a detailed look at those trends and think how they have impacted our world. That is the
path to democratize a technology. When this happens, new rules of economics apply to the
product or service as it will eventually become nearly free.

4- Why understanding technological

trends is a competitive advantage
QUESTION FOUR

in the Digital Age?

O nce we understand exponential trends, we can visualize why business and

individuals are challenged to face the Digital Age.

I always tell people that “ignorance will be the #1 source of poverty in the decades to come.”
Poverty will result from disruption!

Remember that I stated, "A massive transfer of wealth is happening now?"

Can you see it?

Once we understanding these exponential trends, it becomes easier to see which industries
will grow and which will be disrupted. Now we can strategize how to deal with these coming
changes!

Strategizing your path into the future BEFORE these technologies enter into their disruptive
phase is a huge competitive advantage! Reacting AFTER these technologies strike the
marketplace is usually too late.

§ Do you agree?

Please, if you don’t agree you can STOP right here and continue to do whatever you were
doing. But… if you think this guide and lessons are worth your time, DON’T STOP! I want to
guide you and change your future!

We may not know precisely where we will be in 3 to 5 years from now, but we can take action
today and position ourselves ahead of time to be there, at the right time, to catch the next
waves of opportunity.

EDUCATION IN THE DIGITAL AGE: T O P 1 0 Q U E S T I O N S

This is happening today (Nov-2017) with blockchain technology. In January 2009, bitcoin came into
existence. The tech took about eight years to get the attention it deserved. Blockchain coders and
developers are probably the most demanded job in the world today making millions per year.
QUESTION FOUR

How did they get there? How did they position themselves to be there? Was it luck? There’s only one
luck I would agree with, that they noticed the technology on time and didn’t ignore it! They embraced
the vision, and a few years they are revolutionizing the financial industry.

They are positioned for the shift of wealth…. it has started!

What will happen to the jobs that don't make the transition?

Here’s a list of companies that have been impacted by technological change. Fifty per-cent of the
S&P 500 is expected to be replaced in the next 10 years.

In fact, as I have explained above, disruption is predicted to accelerate. In 1965, companies lived
listed on the S&P 500 for an average of 33 years. By 1990, it was reduced to 20 years. It’s forecasted
to shrink to 14 years by 2026!

Our world faces a critical moment in time and you have to take decisions; you may follow the crowd
or decide to position yourself into the future. You need to equip yourself with a map of the future
that gives you your unique competitive advantage.

This is my mission!

5- Why follow your passion and your

dreams is bad advice?
QUESTION FIVE

I used to believe that the best I could do for my kids was to stay out of their way
and let them “freely” follow their dreams and passions.
Today I’m convinced that this is not a wise decision. Such decisions originate on feelings! If we
continue to make uninformed choices simply because they “feel good” the consequences will
be catastrophic. It's a matter of time!

We grew up with what I call the “batch mindset;” meaning that our society moves in “lots,” or
“bundles” like an Industrial Age production-line. We've been trained to fit-in and follow others
instinctively. This is a consequence of the current educational system. We must change as soon
as possible! Why?

• Everything that worked for us won’t

work for the next generation!
Quora has exposed my ideas to people all around the world.

Thousands of people ask for my entrepreneurial advice:

• What’s the best business I can start today?

• What should I study in College?

• Would you invest in my business?

• How can I become a millionaire in 5 years?

• What should I do with my life?

• What would you do in my situation?

QUESTION FIVE

• What is the perfect business idea that I could start today?

I could go on and on…

What is everyone searching for?

Everyone wants and needs to find a good way to make a living. I understand and respect that, but
these questions are all fundamentally wrong!

Today I try to avoid these personal questions because people think that “modeling” other people’s
path to success is a “magic formula!”

We need to stop that! The Digital Age demands us to have a unique strategy for every single
person in the world. We can't possibly advice the same to every person! Some may have physical,
cultural, social, or economic challenges that are very different to others!

Each person must evaluate where they're standing, develop a perspective of the future, identify
their roadblocks, and then strategize their future path.

This is one of our primary goals in DigitalAgeEducation.com.

We call our students pathfinders!

6- What won’t change in the next

decades?
QUESTION SIX

J eff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, was on stage

and a reporter asked him: "Jeff, what do

you think is going to change most in the next ten years?"

Jeff replied, "That's a good question. But a better question

is: What's not going to change in the next 10-20 years?
What won't change for Amazon customers is people's desire
for lower prices and faster delivery.”

Jeff went on to state one of the most relevant lessons we

should never forget about in the Digital Age.

"When you have something that you know is true, even

over the long term, you can afford to put a lot of energy
into it."

That's one of the secrets of Amazon. They’ve achieved such

a fantastic success in this dynamic world, by not focusing
on a specific product or service but by figuring out how to
lower prices and increase the speed of the items shipped to
their customers.

In a world of constant change, it's critically important to

identify what will NOT change in the long run so we can
focus our efforts without being deceived by momentary
trends.

What happened? The world is now competing on innovation trying to catch the next big wave.

But, think about it, can we make a living with this “success-crash” model?

You may say, “Yes, Hector, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity! One home run and I’m set for
life!” Maybe…

But honestly; with millions of apps and products created daily in the world today, what are the
chances you can achieve that kind of “overnight” success?

EDUCATION IN THE DIGITAL AGE: T O P 1 0 Q U E S T I O N S

To find a sustainable path into the future, we need to go back to our original question: What will
NOT change in the coming decades of exponential change?

We should study our human needs:

QUESTION SIX

• Certainty: We need assurance to avoid pain and guarantee wellbeing.

• Variety: We need change and new stimulus. We easily get bored.

• Significance: We need to feel unique, valuable, and special.

• Connection: We need a feeling of connection with people and being part of some-thing
together.

• Love: We all need love and intimacy.

• Growth: We all need to expand our capabilities and capacities.

• Contribution: We all need a sense of service and giving back.

• Our hunger for freedom: We continuously want to achieve more independence in our
lives.

• Better: We will always want something better. We will continually choose products and
services that provide us a faster, simpler solution.

• Cheaper: We will invariably want something that is cheaper and gives us the same or
similar benefit.

The lesson we should never forget:

Despite the fact that we usually resist change, when the perceived value of a new product or
service is better, we can predictably say that we will make the jump to improve and never look
back.

Solving problems and creating value will ALWAYS be in demand!

We must learn how master this in our careers

7- What’s the solution to face our

disruptive future?
QUESTION SEVEN

• Stop being locked in the past!

Welcome change!

• Stop being stubborn or attached to the way you do things!

You have to move with change. This may be deceiving when everything
“seems” to be okay.

• Stop ignoring or underestimating the signals!

Our biggest threats are most likely in the deceptive phrase.

• Stop playing defense!

Invest in accelerating your change. Our biggest challenge is staying ahead

of the wave. You cant catch a wave from behind.

• Stop resisting change!

Prevent the “That will never work,” mindset. We must develop an

experimentation mindset.

• Stop thinking linearly!

Practice your exponential mindset.

• Stop getting distracted!

Distraction is the #1 problem in the world.

• Stop being afraid to go against your culture!

Leadership is required to get ahead of the crowd and help others.

• Stop being over-analytic!

Be decisive.
QUESTION SEVEN

• Do not keep your ears plugged:

Learn to listen, or adversity will teach you the lessons.

• Do not stop learning!

The moment we stop learning we stop evolving.

Can you think of any others?

• It all comes down to disrupt yourself or someone else will!

This is what a true Pathfinder does!

8- How will education change in

the future?
QUESTION EIGHT

W hy are video games so addictive?

How is it possible that a kid that struggles with school can learn how to solve any challenge
in a video game?

The answer may rely on the science of gaming!

EDUCATION IN THE DIGITAL AGE: T O P 1 0 Q U E S T I O N S

Kids teach themselves how to solve game problems through trial and error. Think about it,
when we first open a game, we first understand the challenge. We then come up with ideas to
solve the obstacles. We test those ideas. We learn from the results, and if needed, we try again.

Repeat as needed. True?

QUESTION EIGHT

But there's a mysterious motivator found in the most addictive games.

What is it?

The fact that we start from zero, and every time we get a correct answer our score gets higher
and higher. Small wins quickly become addictive!

In today's educational system, there's a different rewarding method. Kids start with a 100%
score and go down as they “fail” to pass the tests.

How can we get kids "addicted" to learning? I believe its possible! We will soon see some
extraordinary solutions making use of innovative technologies and unusual human creativity.
Imagine the opportunities of innovation and positive change!

Pathfinders study the power of gamification to understand the psychology behind human
motivation.

In short, the future of education looks exciting and promising as it shapes into a further rewarding
and incentivized methodology.

• On-demand

• Personalized

• Open to individualized interests

• Relying heavily on VR and AR

• Evolves with the power of AI

• Democratized by technology

Google and Wikipedia are great examples of how technology can democratize in just a few years.
Soon the wealthiest, and the most unfortunate kids on earth will be accessing identical digital
programs, and most of it will be FREE!

Exciting right?
QUESTION EIGHT

Test your exponential mindset to guess how many years are we away from this democratization
to education to happen? 10 years? That would be my guess with a linear mindset, but go back to
question #3 and see how exponentials work…

My guess is this will happen by 2024 - That's six years from NOW!

Can you see the opportunities ahead?

Remember, the world is full of opportunities for those who position themselves leveraging the
correct information.

But wait!

I have a difficult question for you:

What will happen when education becomes democratized? What happens when your same
education is freely available to Billions of people around the world?

Can you imagine that? That means that your skills learned in College are very similar to millions
around the world.

What I’m trying to help you visualize is that technical skills will quickly be commoditized and
democratized! It’s happening now!

So again…

What should YOU study in College?

What are the skills of the future?

What will help you stand out from a crowd of commoditized skills?

That's what a Pathfinders Leadership is all about!

9- Who will companies hire in the

future?
QUESTION NINE

H ow will the job market look like in a globalized and interconnected world of
billions of educated people? It will be ruthless! How is it possible that a kid
that struggles with school can learn how to solve any challenge in a video game?

It's happening now as the innovation leaders of the world are becoming ever-more jealous and
protective of their corporate culture.

This is their philosophy:

TOP-players Hire TOP-players and B-players Hire C-players – We must be ruthless about
hiring only TOP players!

In an interconnected world exposed to diverse cultures and divided opinions, there’s nothing
more important than filtering the correct people to the appropriate teams and work cultures. The
moment companies lower the bar on the people they let in; will ultimately raise or lower the bar
of the other team members.

It won't be easy to get the “best jobs” of the future. In our ever-changing environment with
high-pressure, high-growth, demands, the exponential mindset and understanding of the future
will be a clear competitive advantage. Way more valuable than any traditional “Industrial Age”
curriculum.

Culture and mindset will be more important than skills!

Why?

Specific technical or certified skills will continue to be important in particular niches, but
leaders must protect their corporate culture above skills because collaboration and diversity of
thought is the crucial advantage of innovative companies.

"Why do you want to work for this company?" This is a very common question applicants get on
any job interview.
QUESTION NINE

• “Because you are market leaders.”

• “Because it's a good pay.”

• “Because I love the benefits this job offers.”

• “Because you teach me.”

• “Because I get free food.”

Terrible answers to that question!

So what's the secret?

Again, its all about the mindset! NOT solely the skills!

Pathfinders understand corporate culture and have the mindset for future jobs.

10- What are the implications of

technological unemployment?

O
QUESTION TEN

pportunities and threats always result from changes!

Threats are easy to embrace… DO NOTHING and BINGO, you are a winner!
Opportunities, on the other hand, DEMAND ACTION!

However you decide to face our future, please do something about it. My goal is to incentivize
you to take action! I promised I was going to give you a gift. My gift was to help you visualize
the future ahead of us, and I hope I have achieved it with this brief guide.

• Oxford University predicts that during the next 20 years, computers, AI and robotics will
replace over 47% of jobs in the United States!

Some leaders worry that massive unemployment may lead to civil unrest. Richard Branson and
Larry Page, believe that society will adapt with a shorter workweek with a guaranteed
universal basic income. UBI is currently being tested in several parts of the world!

Greed is something that will never change. With this in mind, I think we’re quickly moving into
what I call the “Zookeepers Economy.”

How do I envision such economy?

Imagine all the animals in the world 4,000 years ago. They were all free. They thrived in their
natural environments. That's until humans came to the equation with all the technological
advances and unbelievable power.

EDUCATION IN THE DIGITAL AGE: T O P 1 0 Q U E S T I O N S

What happened to all these mighty beasts that ruled the world?

Today every animal on earth can be restrained by humans! Animals lost the battle! They lost their
land and their freedom. Today these beasts are easily dominated in a cage. They eat whatever and
whenever the “zookeeper” provides, not what they want!
QUESTION TEN

“But Hector! They are taken care of… and zookeepers are animal lovers!”

Yes… but they have NO FREEDOM!

In the “Zookeepers Economy” I envision 90% of the world's wealth in the hands of very few
people. Today inequality continues to rise at staggering rates world-wide. With absurd leverage,
exponential technologies in the hands of just a few individuals could eventually come to control
everything and everyone.

So what’s the good news?

We KNOW that while some jobs are disrupted, countless more will be created. Pathfinders may
position themselves as cornerstone leaders in their communities, helping and guiding friends and
family-members find their way into the future.

What do YOU think? Please share!

How can I become a Pathfinder?

W e’re NOT a school or just another online course!

I dream this to become a collaborative force of positive change in the world.
BONUS QUESTION

I envision a global movement to help people with awareness of the opportunities and challenges
ahead. I invite you to lead the change!

We need each other and we MUST help others in need!

Today millions of people lack vision and understanding of our disruptive future… Most
students worldwide are walking BLINDLY into a future still being trained to be another
“factory worker” of the old broken system.

That’s why I created DigitalAgeEducation.com. I did it for my own kids and to help millions of
people around the world that need to open their eyes and develop a Pathfinders mindset.

What is the pathfinders mindset?

We cant precisely predict the future, but we can teach students skills that can help them find
their way into the future. Any individual, no matter their nationality, profession or background
that has a Pathfinder's mindset should be incredibly more skilled to identify the threats and
opportunities as they happen.

But How Can We Achieve This?

Our human creativity is extraordinary. The solutions that work for one student on one side of
the world will most likely NOT work for others. As Pathfinders I envision we can collaborate
and share information, tools, and knowledge to determine the best and UNIQUE solutions for
every one of us. Every generation throughout human history has overcome their challenges.
The next generation WILL eventually figure it out; but it will be less painful if we can provide
them a map to get the perspective of where they want to go, a compass to identify the direction
where to move to and a guide to teach them how to survive.

Is this possible? Only time will tell, but all my common sense says to me that doing NOTHING is
the perfect recipe for disaster!

How can adults guide their kids if we are so different and can
hardly understand them?
BONUS QUESTION

TRUE! Young generations are very different than previous generations, so we have a tremendous
challenge ahead. We must assure we're guiding them without becoming roadblocks standing in
their way. I think we must encourage ourselves to trust their instincts once they've been trained to
identify and envision the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Thanks for taking the time to read this guide. I sincerely hope you've found it helpful. Please share
it and don't hesitate to contact us if we can answer any further questions about our training
programs.
