During our first day in the marketing department, we introduced ourselves and had a small talk

with the VP of the EEI Marketing department, Sir Ferdinand M. Del Prado. Afterwards, we were assigned
in the overseas group together with my groupmate, Quennie. Others were assigned in buildings,
infrastructure and light industries. I was privileged to be under the supervision of Sir Jerry D. Manglicmot
and Mam Jean O. Napalan.

We were able to learn the marketing procedure and policies. As such, we also learned the cost
summary sheet which is being prepared by the engineering department, the pricing summary sheet which
is being computed by the marketing department, the add-ons which compose of bonds such as advanced
payment bond, performance bond, and warranty bond, insurances, cost of money, projection, taxes,
engineering contingency, sales commission, design fee, miscellaneous fees, representation expenses,
marketing provision, etc. We were also able to learn the computation in pricing which needs a careful and
thorough understanding because that is one factor in gaining profits from a project. Sir Jerry also gave us
some exercises such as the “subcontractors’ information” which is a requirement to complete the pre-
qualification checklist needed by the client. We were able to boost our confidence in asking data from the
different departments of EEI. Thus, we were able to acquire the privilege to talk to some of the most
respected and senior management officers of EEI. The experiences that we’ve had in the marketing
department are truly incomparable.

We also had the privilege to visit some of the ongoing projects of EEI such as the Metro Manila
Skyway Stage 3, MRT 7 and other building projects, through the kind approval of our supervisors and
respected VP Ferdinand M. Del Prado. Wherein, we were able to meet some field supervisors at the site
and presented to us their construction procedures and project accomplishments. We took some pictures
and video clips to prepare for our video presentation, our final requirement to present in the marketing
department. The video that we prepared was basically for commercial purposes to advertise and promote
our company because of the quality of its works and excellent workforce.

One important lesson that I have learned is that without good marketing skills, the company
cannot hope to grow and is always in danger in time of crisis. The marketing department of EEI determines
how our company and executives are viewed, accepted and respected. So, it is important to maintain a
good public image by getting the name of the company and shedding a good light on it. Being here sets
the limitation of my skills and knowledge, to not only settle for certain abilities but to seek competitive
advantage and constantly build my repertoire of assets.

Truly, it was a mixed emotion after our 1 month stay in the marketing department. Happy because
we were able to meet the people behind the marketing department and learned from them the
knowledge and experience that we’ll instill for the rest of our lives. Sad because as much as we would like
to extend our stay, we will temporarily leave and proceed on other departments for our training.
Nevertheless, we, the CIPE batch 8 were very thankful to the marketing department especially to our VP
in Marketing, Sir Ferdinand M. Del Prado for the warm welcome and continuous support as we go along
on our journey. It was indeed a joyful and unforgettable experience. God bless us all!
