At the very beginning, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to almighty Allah for
giving me the strength and the composure to complete my internship prepare this report within the
scheduled time. During the period of my internship work, I have received generous help from
many quarters, which I like to put on record here with deep gratitude and great pleasure. First and
foremost, I am grateful to my supervisor, Irene Lee. She allowed me to encroach upon his precious
time freely right from the very beginning of this research work until the completion of my
internship.

Her guidance, encouragement, and suggestions provided me the necessary insight into the
research problem and paved the way for the meaningful ending of the work in a short duration. I
have no hesitation to say that, without his constant support and valuable advice from time-to-time,
I would probably fail to complete the work in an appropriate manner.

and meticulous supervision to carry out the job perfectly. I am also thankful to all other
departmental heads, officials, and also all office staffs of the PenExpo Events their sincere co-

a standard report. It is a great and unique pleasure to me that I have got a chance to thank a large
number of individuals for their help and encouragement to make the internship successful.
Introduction

PenExpo Events is a professional exhibition organizer located in 6, Lorong Seri Setia 1,


Vila Seri Setia14000 Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang. PenExpo Events inaugurated in 2004 and
located in Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. PenExpo Events is currently one of the most
experienced professional exhibition organizers in Penang as it has more than 15 years of
experience.

The company are specializing in organizing education fair and career fair, as PenExpo
Events having more than 15 years’ experience in this industry. In 2022, PenExpo Events had
organized an Online Engineering Job Fair had reached an optimize result. This help to expand
company familiar territory and try to accept new challenging under the situation of Covid-19.

Lastly, the company have 4 department that is CEO, operation department, marketing
department, and accounting department. The main staff in PenExpo include Mr. Francis Wong that
is the CEO of PenExpo and operation department, Ms. Wendy Wong that is the manager for the
accounting department and marketing department and Ms. Irene Lee that is the around 10 years
staff in PenExpo Events
History

A name which is renowned amongst the trade expositions and the successful organizer of
various famous events, we are vastly experienced in organizing and successfully promoting many
of Malaysia’s biggest and most exciting exhibitions. PenExpo has always been creating and
organizing expos that meets the needs and directions of the industries, garnered nothing but
applause and merits from the people of Malaysia. Our products reflect bona fide quality and total
customer satisfaction. Immerse in gigantic IT exhibition halls, visitors have often found
themselves overwhelmed with the latest market info, PenExpo has proven to be more than meets
the eyes. We place significance in the variety of products, options, fair prices, attractive
remuneration packages, cleanliness and convenience to ensure a good customer experience.

At PenExpo, our meticulous planning, second to none marketing prowess and fool proof
system has got us staunch support from countless market players, suppliers and manufacturers all
over the nation. We relish challenges which is why we specialized in events that cater to niche
markets. Such events involve meticulous preparation and bull's-eye marketing strategies to draw
in the intended prospects. We have a young team of talents who discovers and supplies what the
market needs.

We then organize events that answer these needs such as devising the Penang Karnival
Pengguna 2009/2010/2011 and 10th Penang Career and Postgraduate Expo and 2nd Perak
Education Expo and 2nd Kedah Education Expo 2011 to meet the rising number of job-seekers in
northern region of Malaysia. Exhibitors from major brands such as Intel, Dell, Osram, various
universities, colleges, government sectors, and many more were and still are loyal exhibitors with
PenExpo. Our sincere caring for the success of our exhibitors comes from the one principle we
hold tight to: “It is our business to ensure the success of yours”.
Purpose/ Philosophy

PenExpo have a mission to create more quality players in the trade industries with more
consumer options, super competitive prices, opportunity of free trading, to increase awareness
and hence contribute to Malaysia’s economy.
Besides that, PenExpo want to be recognized and acknowledged nationwide as aneffective,
innovative and audacious exhibition organizing company, eventually taking PenExpo to the
international stage. PenExpo is a belief, an unwavering faith that we devote ourselves to in our
effort to deliver our commitment towards our clients and partners in various trade expositions for
a result which is a mile more than satisfaction. It is not an over commercialized bucket of empty
promises, nor is it some sort of flattery pledges that come in abundance, we have always held
strong to our commitments.

In our sprint towards realizing our vision, we always ensure each and every tiny detail of
our project in completing the ultimate mission is groomed, and the target is met as well as
consistently augmented. The belief that there is always a winning formula in outstanding event
management is deeply woven into our soul. We are converting dreams into reality by inculcating
Service Excellence, Concept Creativity, New Methods, Strategies and Techniques Development

culture we were trying to foster as well. Creating more players in a free market will significantly
boost our economy, on the other hand effectively encouraging the budding of a new generation in
the industry.

At PenExpo, authenticity is always a substance that is never far from us. It is always our
business to ensure the growth of your business. We are the best because we work with the best.
Personnel

The department that I attached to include marketing department and operation department.
In the marketing department, I had done the marketing call, marketing email and WhatsApp. On
the first day, my supervisor had taught me and my colleague on how to do the marketing call. After
that, I will call to around 50 people a day to invite them to attend on our Online Engineering Job
Fair 2022. The second department that I attached to is the operation department. In this department
I will do the action plan for the event, communicate with the vendor and follow up with the SEEDS
on the online platform of Online Engineering Job Fair 2022.

In my opinion, I suggest PenExpo Events to doing more promotion on social media.


PenExpo Events can do the advertising on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn that are the most
common social media in Malaysia. By doing advertising, it can increase the awareness in the
market. If any company would like to do events, they will think of PenExpo Events just like the
slogan of PenExpo Events that is Think Events, Think PenExpo. Besides that, I advise PenExpo
Events to do hybrid events for education fair and career fair. This is because if they only run for
physical events, most of their customers and visitors are come from Penang. If they had run hybrid

The third department in PenExpo Events that I did not attach to is the accounting
department. The accounting department will do the quotation to potential exhibitors and issue the
invoice to confirm exhibitors. Besides that, my duty involved in PenExpo Events include
marketing call, doing action plan, having meeting with colleague and supervisor, communicate
with exhibitor, communicate with vendor, and more. In most of the job I get, the favorable aspect
of the job is the operation. I like the operation because I found out a lot of interesting in that. The
interesting is that it has many change on the operation. My unfavorable aspect of the job is
marketing call. I don’t like marketing call because it was repeat job, once I do the marketing call
is the same process. It did not have many of changes. Thus, I did not like marketing call.
Services

PenExpo Events are specializing in organizing education fair and career fair. Normally
they will have minimum one education fair and one career fair in one year. The education fair
and career fair before Covid-19 are running physically and it turn to virtuallyafter the pandemic
start. For the education fair and career fair are running annually. Sometime some NGO also will
require PenExpo Events as the organizer for some of their events. Thus, in one year PenExpo
Events might have minimum five events. For the education fair are organizer with the Penang
government and for the career fair is fully organize by PenExpo Events. They might need
minimum 3 month for the preparation.
Secondly, Career & Postgraduate Expo which its purpose is to assist the Government in
providing more career opportunities in Malaysia and provide a platform for employers to do
recruitment and showcase their companies.
Next is Education Expo. This exhibition would offer a great place for higher education
institutions to come and showcase the programs and services available in their institutions. To
provide students with more information and choices to financial funding for their further studies
and to provide platform for students and parents to get the latest information on programs and
courses offered for their further studies.
Penang Gift & Premium Fair is a fair of such scale and nature promises to be a great
boost for the economy and tourism for both state and nation, bringing in visitors, which
comprised of not only tourists but also sourcing agents, manufacturers, suppliers, key agents and
dealers of all sorts from various countries. It purpose is to create a hub which offers a multitude
of corporate gifts and high quality premiums on display, pulling the attention of interested
parties from all over the nation and even overseas. This will solve the problems of many hunting
around for premium gifts with quality and a variety of choices

In the early stage the marketing department of PenExpo Events need to find for the
exhibitor. For education fair, they will find for university and college in Malaysia; for career fair,
they will find for the company who need to hire new talent from the market. Mostly for career
fair the company that join are in Penang because PenExpo Events had organized career fair in
Penang for more than 15 years. However, on the online career fair, we had gotten an exhibitor
from Kuala Lumpur.
Clientele

The flawless record of past exhibitions have nothing but spoken of our business integrity
as well as capability in hosting a giant size exhibition. Accolades and testimonials from our
exhibitors underlined their appreciation towards the events and their constant support for the
following ones reflect the strong bonds between us. A specialized team of dynamic personnel with
each and every one proven to be a success story himself. A strong team with numerous members
who share a single heart. Complementing each other by meticulous coordination and cooperation,
knowledge sharing and results driven, our only objective is to ensure 101% customer satisfaction.

Running on a strong based of business ideology, PenExpo provides not only a peace of
mind for our clients and exhibitors but value added services which could be offered no where else.
We believe going a further mile to ensure greater success in each and every exhibition of the past
as well as the ones in the horizon. Our huge successes have spread far and wide across the nation
like wild fire, collecting more enquiries from exhibitors and visitors alike about our products,
directly escalating us to immediate stardom. Now our expos are among the favorites in Malaysia
with many looking forward to be part of them.

At PenExpo, we work only with the best. This is because we believe to be a-cut-above one
has to have top range support. It has been a huge privilege for PenExpo to have many great partners
in our effort to organize top exhibitions in Malaysia. It is also our belief that top partners chose us
because of their trusts in our capability and unique selling points, just as ours to them.
Problems Areas

There are some problems in PenExpo Events. First of all is I think that not enough staff in
PenExpo Events. Before I get to PenExpo Events for internship, all the staff in PenExpo Events
only have 3 people. Thus, there are only 3 people in PenExpo Events in this 4 month. Sometimes
will have too many for jobs for everyone due to lack of manpower. For an example, my supervisor
will assign many tasks for me every day and I need to ask for the due date and adjust the work on
hand to make sure all the work can be done before the due date. Besides that, due to lack of
manpower, sometimes my working hour will be too long. This is because too many works on hand
and need to finish the work before going back home. Basically, I will have worked more 1 hour
everyday and few days before events will working more 2 to 3 hours. On the event day I had work
for around 12 hours.

In my opinion, the cause of the problem is because of Covid-19. This is becausewhen


Covid-19 happen, the volume of the business of PenExpo Events become less. Before pandemic
happen, there have around 10 permanent staff and sometimes will have 3 to 5intern staff in
PenExpo Events, however because of pandemic and now all started to be normal, The CEO of
PenExpo decide to reduce the number of staff in PenExpo Events and the CEO planning to take
back a few more staff back in future. Thus, when having event now will face theproblem of lack
of manpower.
For the problem of lack of manpower, I advise to hire more manpower to PenExpo Events.
By having more manpower, the problem of working hour too long also can be settled. This is
because when having more manpower, the work for one person will be reduce and the working
hour also can be reduced. Besides that, I think that when the pandemic situation completely
resolved and the physical expo can be run normally, it also need more manpower. Thus, for the
solution of lack of manpower, I advise PenExpo Eventsto hire more manpower. For the steps to
implementation of the solution, PenExpo Events can announce on their website and social media
that they need to hire more staff and welcome them to emailthe resume to them. Next, PenExpo
Events can read through and choose the candidates that are suitable to them based on the resume.
The third steps, PenExpo Events can arrange the interview session with the candidate they think
that is suitable to them. Lastly, the organization can hire the suitable person based on the interview
section.
Overall, I think that PenExpo Events is a good company. The company have a good
environment. They have hire maid to doing cleaning weekly, thus our working environment are
always clean and tidy. Besides that, PenExpo Events also have enough equipment for me. In the
company have water dispenser, microwave, and more. Lastly, the best thing I think in PenExpo
Events is that employees have a good relationship with each other so this will make the working
environment more interesting. We also will be more unity when working.
CONCLUSION

The industrial attachment in PenExpo Events let me learn a lot of things in events. As I had
a chance to participant in the operation team of Online Engineering Job Fair 2022, I had learned
a lot of things regarding the operation. For example, I had learned to do action plan, learn to
communicate with exhibitors, learn to communicate with vendor and more. These things that I
learn in the industrial attachment might help me a lot in my future career.

Besides that, I also have a good relationship with my colleague. I had learned how to have
a good communication with my colleague. I also learn how to work together with my colleague.
For example, my colleague will help me to do some tasks if he had done all the task on his hand.
I also will help on them if they need my help. We also will discuss together if have difficult on the
task given by the supervisor. This also will help me on my future career when working with other
people.

The third things that I learn in the industrial attachment is multitasking. As PenExpo Events
lack of manpower, so we will have many tasks. As I need to do many tasks in one time, I had
learned to multitasking. I also learn a better time management. By having more better time
management, I can do the task before the due date. I had applied some skills that learned in college
during the industrial attachment including, doing planning before the event, doing post mortem
and more. The skills that I learned in college let me do better when my supervisor give me task.

As a conclusion, the experience of being an intern or industrial trainee in PenExpo Events


is both enjoyable and at times challenging. As an Tourism management student having a chance
to spend my industrial training in an event company have help me to expand the knowledge and
operation for an event. I feel glad that the time I am having my internship I was able to participate
to organize a fair and it help me a lot to know the operation of organizing an event. Nevertheless,
there are some changes that I hope Segi College Penang could really consider. The first option is
to prolong the internship period. 4 months is far too short, in my opinion, for interns to have
finished familiarizing themselves with responsibilities and the corporate environment, as well as
developing strong camaraderie with coworkers, and it is already time to wave our hands.
