LEARNING PLAN
Learning Activities: This is a relatively short unit. It is mostly used to introduce communication to
the students and to introduce them to Microsoft publisher. After experiencing Publisher, the
students will, hopefully, have an appreciation for Adobe software. Using Publisher also allows the
students to experience and use a more available desktop publishing software.

Students will be introduced Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator will then be used to aid in the learning of
layout and design, and students will design a series of logos. Students will be taught about the
design process, why it is important to follow, and how it can aid in creating a successful design.

of the unit. Students will be given a variety of assignments, to help them practice and learn what a

Hand Drafting

LEARNING PLAN
Learning Activities: Students will be introduced to the tools used in drafting (compass, ruler,
straight edge, 45-45-90 triangle, 30-60-90 triangle, etc). They will learn basic skills to using the
tools. Then we will learn how to use the tools in combinations to draw more complex items.

After the tools have been mastered, they will be taught orthographic projection. Each will be given
a block and they will, with guidance from the teacher, draw the block from all sides in orthographic
projection. After completing several more objects, with variations of difficulty, the students will do
the same with isometric drawings.

Learning Activities: Students will be introduced to CAD, computer aided drafting. They will first
learn the tools of AutoCAD, what they do, how they are used, and how the tool relates to what they
did with the drafting tools. Other things to be discussed with AutoCAD include: layers and line
types, snap and object snap, keyboard commands, etc. Next we will discuss the proper methods
for using AutoCAD to draw isometric and Orthographic drawings. These drawings will come from
textbook or real-life objects.
