PART A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or vodcast in order to achieve
required learning standards. Challenge: For an “A” provide an idea where the learning activity reaches a LoTi level 4a or
above. To do this you will have to design a project where students engage in higher-order thinking and publish their work to an
audience that will use or care about the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a great way to boost interest and
performance.

I will be asking my students to create a “Summary of Learning” that captures and describes growth and key learnings
throughout our course. Students have utilized a number of different formats of video to take on this task (e.g., stop
motion, vlogging, podcasts), but the most popular format has been screencasting. The most popular screencasting tool
used by students is movie maker . The students will have two weeks to complete the assignment with multiple days to
wok on the project in class.
This assignment has been very popular with my students and I’ve been quite pleased with the results. Our students need
the opportunity to reflect on their learning, and providing them with alternatives to written summaries helps to improve
their communication abilities while providing potentially rich artefacts of and for learning. The video and the writing
assignment will have a rubric that will be used to grade the project.
Grade Level: 11th Grade
Content Area: U.S. History
Technology Used (check all that apply): Movie Audio Podcast Vodcast Other: (list)

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed:

SSUSH19 Examine the origins, major developments, and the domestic impact of World War II, including the growth of the
federal government.
a. Investigate the origins of U.S. involvement in the war including Lend-lease and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
b. Examine the Pacific Theater including the difficulties the U.S. faced in delivering weapons, food, and medical supplies to
troops, the Battle of Midway, Manhattan Project and the dropping of the atomic bombs.

Brief Description of Learning Experience: As you address the standards, what will students and teachers do? How will
the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? What audience will use/care about the multimedia projects
students are creating? How broad is this audience? How will student work be assessed and by whom? Who will provide
feedback to students about their work? (Overview should be a minimum of 2 paragraphs)

The project will be introduced by the teacher. The teacher will explain the assignment to the students so the students will
be able to completely understand the assignment. The teacher will also show the students an example of a movie maker
which was made by the teacher. The teachers movie is about the dropping of the atomic bombs.

The students should make their movie to an audience that does not know anything about the content they are discussing.
The students should make the movie with enough information so that someone who has no knowledge about their
subject will have a general understanding of their subject. The teacher will use a rubric to assess the students and their
movie. The teacher will also provide students with feedback to them about their movie.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why?
LoTi Level 4

Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could the project be
completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology, if any, are
going to be used in the learning experience?

Using multimedia tools is absolutely critical to completing this assignment because the primary assessment of this lesson plan is
centered around multimedia tools. The project could not be completed without the use of this technology because the student
product is literally a movie made through movie maker. Without multimedia tools the students would not be able to complete the
assignment at all. There are many other forms of technology to enhance their movie maker. The students can use audio as well
as video technology in order to make a movie through movie maker.

Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether in part or whole),
include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you “borrowed” from others.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet safety and student
privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how you’d minimize risks to
students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and follow school districts’ Internet Safety/Use Policy.

Movie make is safe for students to use because it is a software and not an actual online tool. If there are any problems with this
assignment it would be with the research students much do in order to make their movie maker.
Other comments about your proposed student multimedia authoring activity: I like the idea od students making their
own movie.
