LESSON PLAN IN ORAL COMMUNICATION IN CONTEXT

Week 2 Time Frame: 2 hours

Grade & Section: Grade 11 – STEM
Date: April 5, 2022

CONTENT STANDARD:
The learner values the functions/purposes of oral communication.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD:
The learner writes a 250-word essay of his/her objective observation and evaluation of
the various speakers watched and listened to.

LEARNING COMPETENCIES:
1. The learner discusses the functions of communication. (EN11/12OC-IBE-8)
2. Identifies the speaker’s purpose(s). (EN11/12OC-IBE-9)

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
1. Discuss the functions of communication;
2. Describe how communication was used by the main characters of the story watched
and listened to; and
3. Demonstrate a short role play showcasing the proper delivery of the different
functions of communication.

Materials: LED TV, Cartolina, Scotch Tape, Pentel Pen, Slide Deck, Laptop, Prepared

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Introductory Activity
Big Group Discussion: 1. How important is communication?
2. What do you think are the reasons why people
communicate?

B. Activity:
 Divide students into five groups.
 Distribute cartolina, scotch tape, and pentel pen to each group.
 Let the groups watch the video summary of the story “A Thousand and One
Nights”. Afterwards, they’ll need to identify the main characters of the story
and describe how each of them used communication. Then, they’ll need to
organize their answers on a cartolina.
 After 5 minutes, each group’s representative will report about their output.

C. Analysis:
 After all the reports, questions will be asked to each group:

D. Abstraction:
 What are the different functions of communication?
 Do you think that we are using the five functions of communication every day?
How?

E. Application:
Group Activity: Short role play
 Using the same groups, each of the groups will be assigned to a function of
communication to which they are going to make a short role play about.
Group 1: Regulation/Control
Group 2: Social Interaction
Group 3: Motivation
Group 4: Emotional Expression
Group 5: Information Dissemination
 All of them will be given 20 minutes to practice.
 Each group will be given 2 minutes for preparation and 5 minutes to present.
 The presentations will be rated through a teacher-made rubric.

F. Generalization:
What did you learn from the short role play? Are the basic functions of
communication properly delivered?

G. Valuing:
How can we determine if a communication is effective?

IV. EVALUATION:
With a minimum of 250 words, write an essay about the story you watched and
listened to considering how the main characters of the story used the different
functions of communication.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Before the class ends, students will copy their assignment. They will write their
answers in a ½ sheet of paper.
1. What is communicative competence?
2. Cite at least five benefits of achieving communicative competence.
