CITY ORDINANCE NO. 2013-003

AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING ALL PERSONS ENGAGED IN THE
SELLING OF FOOD-GRADE SALT WITHIN THE CITY OF
CABADBARAN TO ENSURE THE COMPLIANCE OF REPUBLIC
ACT 8172, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS “AN ACT PROMOTING
THE SALT IODIZATION NATIONWIDE AND FOR RELATED
PURPOSES”

WHEREAS, Section 3, Paragraph d of Republic Act 8172, otherwise known as

“An Act Promoting the Salt Iodization Nationwide and for Related Purposes”, requires
the local government units to monitor the quality of food-grade salt being sold
in their markets in order to ascertain that such is properly iodized.

BE IT ORDAINED, by the 3rd Sangguniang Panlungsod of Cabadbaran City,

Agusan del Norte, in its 7th Regular Session assembled, that:

SECTION 1. MANDATE. All persons/businesses engaged in the selling of

food-grade salt within the City of Cabadbaran are mandated to ensure the compliance
of Republic Act No. 8172, otherwise known as An Act Promoting the Salt Iodization
Nationwide.

SECTION 2. THE CITY HEALTH OFFICER. The City Health Officer or his
duly authorized representative, is hereby required to regularly check/monitor the
quality of all food-grade salt being sold in Cabadbaran City to ascertain that all
concerned comply with the standards set forth under RA 8172, otherwise known as
“An Act Promoting the Salt Iodization Nationwide and for Related Purposes”.

SECTION 3. THE PUNONG BARANGAY. All Punong Barangays are

encouraged to implement the provision of this Ordinance in their respective
barangays.

SECTION 4. BARANGAY NUTRITION SCHOLARS (BNS) AND

BARANGAY HEALTH WORKERS (BHW). All BNS and BHW shall see to it that
salt being sold in their respective barangays comply with the provision of
Republic Act No. 8172.

SECTION 5. SEPARABILITY CLAUSE. Should any provision of this

Ordinance be declared invalid or unconstitutional by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan or
by any court of competent jurisdiction, all other provisions which are not declared so
shall remain in full force and effect.

SECTION 6. APPLICABILITY CLAUSE. All other related matters not

specifically provided in this Code shall be governed by the pertinent provisions of
existing applicable laws or ordinances.

SECTION 7. REPEALING CLAUSE. All ordinances inconsistent with this

ordinance are hereby repealed or modified accordingly.

SECTION 8. EFFECTIVITY CLAUSE. This Ordinance shall take effect upon

approval.
