The A/W 2019 McConnell Collection takes its

inspiration from the sad and hauntingly beautiful
classic Irish myth the Children of Lir. According to
the tale, the four much loved children of the Irish
King Lir were banished from the Kingdom by their
jealous stepmother and destined to take the form
of swans which sang enchanting melodies from
various lakes of Ireland.

The tale evokes the beauty of the four majestic and

elegant swans, the enduring youth of the children
and the durability and timelessness of
their surroundings.

Each product line recalls the names of the children,

the characters and the places from the story
illustrating the strength, resilience and timeless
beauty in each of the pieces. It’s essentially Irish;
it’s essentially classic.

About the designer

Anne Behan likes to design and produce knitwear which are like
little pieces of art. Designed to be the new traditional, her collections
have quality and timelessness knitted through. She wants her
pieces to look good and, importantly, make the wearer feel good.

Anne specialised in knitwear for her degree and postgrad in fashion

design at the distinguished Limerick School of Art and Design which
won her the Student Knitwear Designer Award.

Beginning her career creating beautiful silk and viscose knits, she
developed her brand to produce contemporary knitwear based on
the hand finished craftsmanship Ireland has always been traditionally
known for. For Anne, her designs are the new traditional.

Following her tenure at fashion and knitwear companies Carraig

Donn and Ireland’s Eye Knitwear, she formed Áine Knitwear which,
along with McConnell Menswear and McConnell Living, now form all
three elements of the McConnell Woollen Mills Ltd brand.

Her ability to fuse contemporary culture with Irish heritage, borrow

colours from our landscape and produce patterns which are
stunningly appealing textural statements, is what makes Anne’s
designs stand out from the crowd.

Based in East Clare, she ensures all her local and international
clients get the best quality by having her creations made with natural
yarns by a local workforce, using state of the art technological
infrastructure which is optimised to ensure quality control is
consistent and customers get exactly what they see on her label.

Following a successions of accolades throughout the years, she

was also this year’s Fashion Category Winner and Overall Winner for
Best Product Award and Design Ireland Winner at Showcase 2018.
