Kandri is a tourist village developed in Semarang City starting 2012. After
becoming a tourist village, Kandri Village has undergone a socio-cultural change
from a village dominated by agriculture to a tourist village dominated by various
tourism object development along with other supporting facilities managed by the
community and Semarang City Government. The purpose of this study is to explain
the condition of Kandri Village community before becoming a tourist village and
socio-cultural life after becoming a tourist village.
The method of this study is phenomenology type of qualitative method.
The source of data in this study is the community of Kelurahan Kandri who is
considered and believed to know the problem to be studied. Informant’s
determination uses purposive and snowball techniques. Data collection techniques
uses observation, interview and documentation study. Data analysis uses model
interactive analysis.
The conclusion of this study is that there has been a vertical change in the
community of Kelurahan Kandri before and after being a tourist village in the
economic, social and cultural sectors. This change occurs in all layers of society,
from farmers to entrepreneurs, causing changes in the social structure of society.
The socio-cultural changes experienced by the people of Kelurahan Kandri
occurred because there were factors that encouraged the emergence of change.
The existence of these factors of change posed a positive and negative impact on
the socio-cultural changes of Kelurahan Kandri community, thus changing the
lives of the people from the traditional to the modernization. From these
conclusions, it is suggested that every development carried out should consider
the socio-cultural conditions of the local community, because it is feared that the
indigenous people will be marginalized and disappear if the development is not
balanced with the preservation of the culture and social conditions of the
community.
