REFLECTION PAPER ON THE EMPEROR’S CLUB

“The end depends on the beginning”. The quote or motto from their academy from the emperor’s
club makes me feel motivated and the outcome of something depends on how we start it. The end will not
exist if there is no beginning to start with. It reminds also for students that the effort they put into their
educations from the beginning of each day, each school year, and each of their educational career will reap
rewards later in life.

The emperor’s club is a great film to watch with the family, friends, teachers and to those who aims
to become a teacher. The story is very simple and it can be also a sad story. A classics class professor
named William Hundert who has lived his life to expect certain virtues in the characters of men of power, as
known by the great rulers and thinkers of ancient Greece and Rome. The story revolves Mr. Hundert and the
lives of his students. The turning point of the story is when a transfer student named Sedgewick Bell arrives
who is actually the son of U.S Senator. Bell does not possess any good values but he become an influencer
to other students, especially his classmates. Mr. Hundert wants to take an actions to make Bell into a good
man or to become a good person while spending in the academy until he graduates and apply it in the future.
Although the process may be slow, he was able to convince Bell to study diligently and making him to be on
the top in class. The problem is that he was too convinced of Bell’s changes and gave him an underserving
opportunity of making him the representative of the Emperor’s Club contest, even putting one of his students
who deserves more and sacrificing just to make Bell in his place. But after all, he cheated and betrayed Mr.
Hundert in the contest. After 25 years, the same thing happened again when Bell proposes a rematch in the
Emperor’s Club contest when he lost in the first place. Mr. Hundert accepts and forgives although hesitated
at first. After the contest, he confronted Bell and gave him the final lessons to him.

The moral lesson I learned in the movie, in class, there are many ways of being a successful person,
not by only being academically high grades, but also being a true person as you want to be. Some cheats
but they tend to do that in order to have a good life. Being fair to his/her students can give you more respects
of being a good professional teacher. It will also give you not just respect of your students but also respect
to yourself and whenever you will meet them years and years went by, the students you handled before will
recognize what you did to them in their schooling days.
