Combined Line Termination (LT)/Splitter board version A.
The NALS-A:
• Can be used in a 7302 Intelligent Service Access Manager (ISAM) Flexible Density
(FD) subrack, in a 7330 ISAM Fiber to the Node (FTTN) FD subrack, or in a 7356
ISAM Fiber to the Building (FTTB) Shelf Based Remote Expansion Module (SB-
REM).

READSL2) Annex A, Annex M and Annex L, and of ITU G.992.5 (ADSL2plus)
Annex A and Annex M over Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) services.
• Contains 48 multiDSL over POTS links on one board with a maximum line transmit
power of 19.2 dBm.
• Is equipped with a splitter board with 48 Low Pass Filter (LPF) for POTS.
Note: The splitter board does not contain a Remote Inventory PROM nor relays for
line testing purposes.
• Supports layer 3 Interworking Forwarding (IWF) engine.
Note: For more information on the IWF engine, refer to the Product Information.
• Can be hot inserted or extracted.
• Can be used in the following operation conditions:
• -5°C to +45°C inlet/ambient temperature range, when used in fully populated
7302 ISAM racks (that is, equipped with more than 1 shelf).
• -40°C to +55°C inlet/ambient temperature range, when used in stand-alone 7302 ISAM
subracks or 7330 ISAM FTTN subracks.
• -40°C to +70°C inlet/ambient temperature range, when used in 7356 ISAM FTTB
SB-REM.
• humidity: 10% to 95% (non-condensing).

• UNI:
The User data to NT Interface (UNI) connects the data plane to the NT boards via 2
Gigabit Ethernet (GE) links. The UNI is also used for in-band communication
between the NT boards and the LT management plane.
• IWF:
The InterWork Function (IWF) is the core module of the data planet. The IWF
handles the L2/L3 protocol related aspects of the data path, packet forwarding and
filtering, traffic management, QoS, and so on.
• MMM:
The Main Memory Module (MMM) is used by the data plane and by the control
plane. Up to 512 Mbyte ECC protected memory can be installed.
• DSPM:
The Digital Signal Processor Module (DSPM) is responsible for the conversion of the
ATM packets from the UTOPIA protocol to a protocol compatible to the Analog Front
End (AFE).
• AFEM:
The Analog Front End Module (AFEM) is the xDSL physical part of the NALS-A
board. Each AFEM consists of 16 ADSL lines.
• OBCM:
The On Board Control Module (OBCM) is the core module of the control plane. The
OBCM acts as the general CPU towards all the components on the LT board. The
OBCM does also take cares of ‘slow path’ data manipulation (for example, IGMP
processing).
• CMM:
The Control and Management Module (CMM) is responsible for the reset strategy,
interrupt handling, test interface, and so on.
• PWRM:
The PoWeR Module (PWRM) distributes the power in the NALS-A.
• CLKM:
The CLocK Module generates all system clocks required by the components and
interfaces on the board.

POTS Interface
At the POTS interface, the line from the POTS Central Office (CO) exchange is
connected. This is a 2-wire connection consisting of the a-wire and b-wire of the
exchange line and accessible via the POTS CHAMP connector on the front panel.
Line Interface
At the LINE interface, the connection is made from the splitter towards the High-Pass
Filters and the external LINE connector (situated on the LT motherboard). This is a two-
wire connection on six 16 PB connectors which connect the daughterboard to the
motherboard.
6 External Interfaces
The splitter board is mounted on the motherboard NALS-A. The LINE port is already
terminated by means of the AFE input impedance (situated on the LT board). This
termination can be modeled by ZIN-ADSL; see Figure 8.

Electrical Specifications
Polarity Independence
The requirements mentioned below are applicable to both the polarities of the DC line
feeding voltage and DC line current.
DC Series Resistance
The DC series resistance from the a-wire to the b-wire observed at the POTS interface
with the LINE interface shorted, and vice versa (DC series resistance from the a-wire to
the b-wire observed at the LINE interface with the POTS interface shorted) does not
exceed 50 Ω.
DC Resistance to Earth
The DC resistance between either terminal of the ADSL, POTS, and LINE interface, and
ground (FG terminals of the board) is no less than 20 MΩ (when tested with 100V DC
with either polarity and the other interface terminals in open circuit).
DC Isolation Resistance
The DC Isolation resistance between both terminals (a-wire and b-wire) of each interface
(a-wire and b-wire) is no less than 5 MΩ (when tested with 100V DC in either polarity,
while the other terminals are in open circuit).
DC Feeding Current
All the requirements mentioned below are applicable for a DC current flow from the
POTS interface to the LINE interface (and vice-versa) within a range from 0 mA to 100
mA (in either polarity).
Ringing Signal
All low pass filters pass the ringing signal between the POTS and LINE interfaces.
Table 2 shows the main characteristics of the ringing signal.
Parameter Value
Ringing frequency 25 Hz - 50 Hz
Load impedance (at the LINE interface) 2.7 kΩ + 2.2 µF (for 25 Hz)

(1)
Blinking means the LED goes on for a short period (1 s) and then off again.
(2)
Blinking period depends on the download speed.
