The re-circulating ball skates require greasing once a week. The skates are
made up of three rows of rock bit tool steel balls encased in 4140 hardened
tracks.
The skates have two grease nipples per side, top and bottom. The top nipples
feed into the same track as the bottom nipples, they are there to make the
skate symmetrical and to give the choice whichever is easier to access.
The lower nipples grease the outside track on the side of the nipple and the
upper nipples both grease the center track. The chains should be closed on
each other with minimum squeeze and slowly ran in-hole. A minimum of
one tube each side a week is required
The new skates now have replaceable strips and corner pieces, when parts
finally wear individual pieces can be changed out rather that the complete
skate.
Every two years the Injector needs to be re certified, the skates are stripped
and the balls are replaced. This is a preventative measure as we need to
change the balls before they wear too much and fall out.
The chart below shows a pull test with a CP 48K Injector, this test shows
that the operator should never have to have more than 1000 psi skate
pressure. The lower the pressure the longer the skates, dies etc. will last.
