The public can oppose a project, within 60days of project notification.
Central govt can impose a termination of a project unless there is an environmental clearance form State or central pollution control board. During the project investigation stage, Project authorities should mention the site to MoEF, MoEF will convey decision regarding the suitability of the site within 30 days. Rejected submission because of insufficient data about the project is to be resubmitted with sufficient data and plans, submitting insufficient data another time leads to dismissing the project. Impact assessment agency (IAA) will give clearance to project which comprises of the committee of experts, and the composition of experts details provided in Schedule III. IAA experts have authority to visit & inspect the site. If a project is violating environmental norms, Experts can stop the project IAA shall prepare a document comprises of Project authority report, a recommendation based on assessment, site visit report, interaction report with PAF(Project affected people). Report prepared by authority is to be made available to peoples, environmental groups based on request. (Public hearing should finish within 30 days of receipt of a proposal) Assesment should complete within 120 days, and the decision is to be given to project authorities. Clearance shall be valid for five years for commencement construction and operation; No preliminary activities should start before getting an approval. Project authorities should submit a half-yearly report to monitor the implementation of recommendations.
