Definiti0n of LTCFs
 A Facility that provides rehabilities, restorative, and/or ongoing skilled nursing care to patients or resident in
need of assistance with activities of daily living ( medicineNet).
 Assisted Living Facility
This residential care setting combines housing,support services, and healthcare for eldery inviduals.
 Continuing Care Retirement Community
A Residential care setting that usually has independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing facility on site
 Nursing Home
A Place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with
activities of day living
 Home Care
Care delivered in the home to support people with the instrumental activities of daily living,activities of daily
living or limited skilled care.
HAI in LTCFs
 Estimates are hampered by limited availability of reliable data
 HAIs from USA range widely from 1,4 to 5,2 infections per 1,000 resident
care days
