Experiment # 5

To find out forces in various parts of wall crane

Objective:
 To find forces in various parts of wall crane.

Theoretical background:
Whenever a body is subjected to a number of forces there will be net effect of all
these forces on the body. The various forces acting on the body. The various forces
acting in order for a system to remain in equilibrium, there must be some
neutralization force so that it is equal in magnitude but opposite in direction to net
effect of all forces. This force is called “EQUILIBRIANT” under this condition,
system will be in equilibrium.

Procedure:
1. First of all set apparatus and measure the fix distance of wall crane i.e. AB,
AD, BC&CD which remains constant throughout experiment.

2. Also find T1 and Q1 before loading.

3. When load is applied to wall crane, the length of AD & CD changes .

4. When the system comes in equilibrium.

5. Measure the distance AD & CD.

6. Select a suitable scale & draw the forces then calculate T2 and Q2.

Result and conclusion:

The result obtained from this experiment is not purely accurate due to errors in
taking readings and system errors.
