X is a three-year Computer Science and Design Thinking program

for high school students that empowers them to become changemakers
in their communities. It leverages the talent and passion of students from
Stanford University and affords them the opportunity to teach promising
students in Code.X programs around the world.

We operate in developing countries and within refugee communities,
working through a country-by-country decentralized structure with local
partners that act as owners of the program.

Code.X launched a pilot in 2015 and graduated its first cohort of

students in from the full three year program last summer.

O U R APPR O AC H

Our emphasis is on changing mindsets to grow students as change

agents. By integrating computer science, design thinking, and cultural
exposure, students gain not just technology skills, but also how to use
those skills to identify and create solutions.

Code.X's three-year program focuses on quality of instruction and

providing a life-changing experience; comprised of:
2-week Summer Camps: Students learn Python and Android, along with the Design
Thinking process; taught by Code.X volunteers each summer after 9th, 10th and
11th grades
Year-long Instruction: Weekly sessions during the school year for students to
practice coding skills and flexing Design Thinking muscles; led by local staff from
our partners

Capstone Project: A team project where students use the design process to identify
a real problem that affects their communities, and address that problem by
developing an Android app

Separately, with each partner, Code.X also promotes the Hour of Code
with Code.org in order to raise awareness, create interest in the
program, and create links to the global tech community.

Students: A diverse mix selected based on aptitude and drive, through a partner-led
application process - 50% female and a mix of socio-economic backgrounds

Volunteer Instructors: Current students and recent alumni from Stanford

University, selected by Code.X are responsible for holistic student education in 2-3
week summer camps, alongside local co-instructors

Local Partners: Code.X is designed for sustainability; We typically partner with

companies in the Information and Technology sectors with a sizable CSR program -
partners are responsible for program marketing and execution
