LUNAR AND SOLAR ECLIPSE
ACTIVITY 1

1.LUNAR ECLIPSE-A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly
behind Earth and into its shadow. This can occur only when the Sun,
Earth, and Moon are exactly or very closely aligned, with Earth between
the other two. A lunar eclipse can occur only on the night of a full
moon. The type and length of a lunar eclipse depend on the Moon's
proximity to either node of its orbit.

2.SOLAR ECLIPSE- A solar eclipse occurs when an observer (on Earth)

passes through the shadow cast by the Moon which fully or partially
blocks the Sun. This can only happen when
the Sun, Moon and Earth are nearly aligned on a straight line in three
dimensions during a new moon when the Moon is close to the ecliptic
plane. In a total eclipse, the disk of the Sun is fully obscured by the
Moon. In partial and annular eclipses, only part of the Sun is obscured.

ACTIVITY 2
1.What do you think is an Eclipse?
-an obscuring of the light from one celestial body by the passage of
another between it and the observer or between it and its source of
illumination.

2.What are the two kinds of Eclipse?

-Lunar and Solar Eclipse
3-4. How are Solar and Lunar Eclipse similar, and how there are
different?
-Lunar eclipses tend to happen significantly more often than solar
eclipses, because the moon is closer to the Earth than the sun. The
chances of the Earth getting between the sun and the moon is much
greater than the moon getting between the sun and the Earth. A solar
eclipse was often seen as a bad omen in ancient cultures. Although
there are major visual differences, the actual effect of either the sun or
moon being blocked out is similar for both types of eclipse. A dark
circular shadow (either from the moon or the Earth) slowly moves
across the celestial object being eclipsed before disappearing at the
end of the eclipse.

5. What are some beliefs about Eclipse?

-A Warning to Sinners
an eclipse was the result of human sins and was a warning sent to all
humans. Eclipses were viewed as bad omens, warning of trouble on the
horizon.

6. What other superstition have you heard about Eclipse?

-A Korean belief held that an eclipse occurred when fire dogs
attempted to steal the sun or the moon. According to legend, a
mythical king ordered these dogs to attempt to grab hold of the hot sun
or the freezing moon. Although, it's a fruitless task, the attempt (or, the
bite) blots out the sun or the moon for a short period of time.
