1. Script
1.1 The script for the Ibong Adarna Musical is an adaptation from the original Corrido, i.e.,
certain themes will be emphasized throughout the script, such as the relationship of Juan
with his father, the strengths and weaknesses of Juan’s character.
1.2 The script deviates from the original setting of the Corrido, which is thoroughly western, as
well as the moorish interpretations of the said Corrido. It is inculturated, in terms of theme,
costumes, as well as the names and titles of the character. It adapts the pre-colonial setting
of the philippine islands, mainly coming from the katagalugan, as well as some themes from,
but not limited to the other pre-hispanic cultures in Visayas and Midanao.
1.3 The language used all throughout is modern tagalog (standard), with some old tagalog
words included, in order to enrich the audience’s appreciation of the classical language.
2. Music
2.1 Most of the music used in the script are from the original composition of the scriptwriter
hgimself, considering the musical tastes of modern and contemporary Filipino musical plays
(such as Katy, for example). Most of the music is set on the key of B Flat, to give the musical
a much more adventurous color.
2.2 Some parts of the musical will use pre-existing compositions, such as Sa Ugoy ng Duyan by
Maestro Lucio San Pedro, in consultation with the experts on music pattents and copyrights.
2.3 Instrumentation used on the musical will be a mixture of pre-recorded music, c/o the
scriptwriter, as well as soemlive music from more indigenous instruments, such as Kudyapi,
Kubing, and agong, to give the musical a touch of the pre-colonial.
3. Characters
3.1 Lead actors and primary characters for the musical will be chosen from the students of the
Junior and senior highschool, while most secondary and supernumeraries will come from
the elementary and pre-elementary department, if possible.
3.2 Teachers and Parents can be invited for other roles, if the need arises.
4. Costumes
4.1 Costumes of the main characters shall be included in the budgte. Other costumes will be
shouldered by the characters themselves, and props will be handled by the Art Department,

costume will be drafted by the Art Department.
