REFLECTION FOR DEEPENING

 How can you show your commitment to public interest?

Commitment to public interest is valuing your relationship as a government

employee/official or as a civil servant to the public, because in the process of serving the

Philippine Government, it is understood that you are also serving the interests of the

Filipino people. It is showing concern to the trust and confidence the public reposed on

you because we all know that public office is a public trust and that all employees and

officers must at all times be accountable to the people.

There are many ways to show commitment to public interest and one of which is

not using one’s position, information or property to go after any personal interest.

Working in the government is a privilege and a responsibility at the same time, which is

why, as a public servant, I am obliged to stay humble and do my work with utmost

authenticity. Maximizing the use of supplies to eschew wasteful utilization, the use of

government funds must be preserved and must be budgeted efficiently, it shall never be

used in corruptions and other personal intentions. Another is coming to work early or on

time to promote punctuality and be a good example to others as well, and serving the

public with utmost sincerity.

Showing commitment to public interest is like showing how you love and how

you respect your work. Many would say, “If you want to change the ways of doings of

others, you must start with yourself”, and understanding this norm, commitment to public

interest would be a good start for a better nation.
