Q1. [CO1] Consider a load resistance RL = 100 Ω to be matched to a 50 Ω line with a

quarter-wave transformer. Find the characteristic impedance of the matching section and plot
the magnitude of the reflection coefficient versus normalized frequency, f/fo, where fo is the
frequency at which the line is λ/4 long.

Q2. [CO1] Design a single-section quarter-wave matching transformer to match a 10 Ω load

to a 50 Ω transmission line at f0 = 3 GHz. Determine the percentage bandwidth for which the
SWR ≤ 1.5.

Q3. [CO1]Design a single-section quarter-wave matching transformer to match a 350 Ω load

to a 100 Ω line. What is the percent bandwidth of this transformer, for SWR ≤ 2? If the
design frequency is 4 GHz, sketch the layout of a microstrip circuit, including dimensions, to
implement this matching transformer. Assume the substrate is 0.159 cm thick, with a relative
permittivity of 2.2.

Q4. [CO1] Design a QWT to match a 74Ω load with a line of characteristic impedance 50Ω
at 1GHz. If the maximum allowable reflection coefficient is 0.05, then calculate the
percentage of the bandwidth.

Q5. [CO1] Design a QWT to match a 100Ω load with a line of characteristic impedance 74Ω
at 3GHz. If the maximum allowable reflection coefficient is 0.05, then calculate the
percentage of the bandwidth.
