Community Development Project with Vikash and

Introduction to NGO
Vikash has come a long way as a Non-Governmental Organization
in Odisha, working towards Sustainable Development and
Protection of People’s Rights through community involvement,
keeping in view the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) since
1986.
Vision

Shelter, Health, Education, Entertainment etc., are met; where
Justice, Equality, Liberty and Security are assured; Where Co-
operative Culture is a Way of Life.”

About Community Development Project

I am very happy that I have associated with such a good NGO. I have
been working in the project from 17th June 2019 to 15th July 2019. I
feel so proud that I have given something to my community.

I have worked as a campaigner. I have basically working in

three ways:
 I had visited two of shelter homes runs under the Vikash
organization to inspect the conditions and livelihood.
 I was then started an online campaign to raise fund to fulfill the other
requirement for them.
 I prepare a group of databases of prominent personality and request
help from their side.
Problem identification:
Cities of Odisha like Bhubaneswar and Puri have
heavily affected due to the FANI cyclone occurred on
May 3, 2019, which lead to loss of people’s shelter and
daily livelihood necessary materials.
In spite of govt. hard work and efforts, there are still
many villages which are in darkness, many people who
are homeless, now they are having shelter in govt.
schools and shelter homes. They are under a roof and
being provided with Food, but that really doesn’t mean
they are in comfort. It is no more the Era where food
shelter and a pair of cloth is all that called necessary
requirements of life.
First of all, after getting the project I had visited to the
two urban homeless shelter which is govern by our
Vikash organization. The main reason is to observe the
condition and livelihood there. The people there provided
with shelter with food as well as bedding electricity etc
for better condition to live. however, during my visit what
I had observed that there was problem in hygiene. There
is no proper hygienic condition although there are
inhouse toilets and washrooms. They were not having
proper clothes, footwears to use as these items were not
provided to them.
It is an Era where diseases are so prone to
attack. Can we imagine a day without a bed to
sleep in an area full of mosquitoes, with a single
or two pair of clothes, without footwear in this
summer?
They need clothes, footwear, mosquito net,
sanitary kit, solar lights, etc. there was a
Cause of the problem:
Four main cause due to which this problem arises are,
 Funding problem
 Minimum focus upon these items as govt. only
provide for basic needs.
 Lack of public help and donation as NGO can’t
afford alone all these items.
 Lack of public awareness about hygiene.

Action taken to resolve the problem:

after getting report I had started searching the best
possible way to provide them these items through
donation. For this I had followed so many steps like,
 First of I had started a online campaign to raise
fund for them. Through the ketto.org site I had

 I had also requested for funding, unused old

clothes, footwear etc. for donation as suitable. The
name the campaign “1000 people’s 1 dream”.
Basically, our main motto was to give them relieve
from the problem they faced in the cyclone.
 I had prepared many databases of contacts of all
prominent personalities of Odisha as well as from
outside to seek their help and donations.
 I had share with them the detail of our effort and
request their supports in cause of humanity.
 Other than this also I personally had a discussion
with the people of our apartment regarding the
cause and seek their supports.
 In addition to this I had also given company to
program coordinator in different awareness
programme conducted.
 After all I had successfully completed the
campaign and donated at the shelter home in
Ghatikia, Bhubaneswar. Here is some picture of

Effectiveness:
only giving some clothes to people and some
food doesn't help them a lot, so we have to take a
step ahead that at least we can help them together to build
their house which they lost due to FANI. Now it’s a
challenge for Vikash as well as we all have to help them
most possible ways so that they can live in their beautiful
home happily. During my one month project I have felt the
happiness of helping mankind.

Conclusion:
We should pay more attention to people, are around us, no
one knows whether he can be in the same situation or not,
no one has the guarantees that he will live in the prosperity
the whole life. That is why, we should help each other, we
should remember that we are the people and such qualities
as compassion and loyalty shouldn’t die in our soul. We
must help these people whole heartily.
