Use:
CAT 1,2,3,4 used for telephone exchange due to low speed
CAT 5,5e,6,6e use for LAN

Types of cabling:
 Cross over
 Roll over
 Straight cable

Cross over:
It is used to connect same device.

Roll over cable:


It is used to configure the operating system of device to access interface of device no
communication providing by roll over cable.

Straight cable:
It is used for connecting different device.

Rules for connecting wire to connector:

Straight cable:
If 568A uses in one end of wire and also uses 568A the other end of wire.
If 568B uses in one end of wire and also uses 568B the other end of wire.

Cross over cable:


If 568A uses in one end other end of wire uses 568B.

Roll over cable:
End one uses 568A top to bottom, other end of wire uses 568A bottom to top.
End one uses 568B top to bottom, other end of wire uses 568B bottom to top.

Packet-Tracer:

A step wise procedure of making a network in Cisco packet-tracer.

Step:1

 First view of packet tracer.

Step:2

 Take a router 1841 from routers.


 Take two generic PC’s (PC0 , PC1) from End Devices.
Step:3

 Connect PC0 and PC1 with Router 1841 by cable (Automatically Choose Connection
Type) from connections.

Step:4

Assigning IP Address to PC0 and PC1.

 Click on PC0 .A dialog box appeared.


 Click on Desktop tab. Select IP Configuration and assign IP address to PC0.
 Subnet Mask calculated automatically.
 Same process with PC1.
Step: 4

 Assign IP address to both interfaces of Router.


 Make line protocol on interface to up state that shows green dots instead of red.
Step:5

 Assigning Default gateway to PC0 for data sharing.


 Click PC0.
 Select Desktop tab click IP configuration and type default gateway as shown above in
picture.
 Same process with PC1 you can see in below picture.
Step:6

 To check that is data sharing between networks.


 Click on” Add simple PDU” on the side bar. It is a data packet.
 After select the packet click on both PC’s (PC0, PC1) one after the other.
 First time always it failed in data sharing.
 Repeat the process again if now it successful it means data shared but if not then we
have to find error. see below in picture it is successful.
