Abstract
In this Project we can "build" a local area network (LAN) by connecting devices over Bluetooth.
The Android platform includes support for the Bluetooth network stack, which allows a device
to wirelessly chat with other Bluetooth devices. The application framework provides access to
the Bluetooth functionality through the Android Bluetooth APIs. These APIs let applications
wirelessly connect to other Bluetooth devices, enabling point-to-point and multipoint wireless
features so we able to chat with others. Bluetooth chatting is an innovative approach to the
mobile world. This application shows use of Bluetooth in terms of chatting. Means persons can
chat via Bluetooth. The main screen has just a list which has two values server and client. By
selecting one of these two values, the corresponding instance is created. Main screen is used to
initialize the connection. It does follow thing at here. First, it starts the application and search
the Bluetooth device. It sends the signal to the server class. Second, it can run, pause and stop
the application. Third, it shows alert. Alert function on every changing.
1. Introduction

Communication is very important between the people in all areas, why because through
communication we can share knowledge, exchange ideas, chat with friends etc.,
Communication plays vital role in any situation to full fill our needs/tasks. Present
communication Medias are computer, mobile phones, pager, etc. Now a days we are using
Mobile phones to send SMS,MMS and chatting with friends for this if we want to send a
message to any one we are depending on service providers and many more for this message
every one charging some amount but with the help of Bluetooth we can send message through
our mobile phone without depending on any service provider for this reason we can send
messages at free of cost. We can connect two or more mobiles and chat with any people at a
time. In recent years, with the development of mobile communication and Mobile terminal,
especially the release of Android smart phone platform has injected new vitality to the mobile
space. Bluetooth technology is a mature short- range wireless communication technology. The
working frequency band of Bluetooth does not need a license around the globe. The advantage
of Bluetooth technology is reflected in the low price, easy to control and non-visual distance
limitations. Bluetooth is an important feature of the smart phone, which is integrated into the
Android platform, as the Android mobile network communication module. Through using
Bluetooth, only we can send files, images. We Can’t do chat using Bluetooth. To solve this
problem, we build a Bluetooth Chat Application.

The purpose of this application which based the Bluetooth of android is connect phones into a
local area network, then we can communicate with each other without any cost. Through the
Bluetooth module, android phones can be divided into client and server and then the real-time
chat between friends’ others.
The Bluetooth Chat application proposed is a two-way, sending and receiving, text chat
program for any device, i.e. phones, tablets, …etc., powered by Google’s Android operating
system with Bluetooth transceiver’s capabilities. These devices are largely used in open and
closed spaces; and everywhere as streets, squares, hotels and other places. The Bluetooth Chat
application does not require a GSM or Wi-Fi connection, all it needs is two Bluetooth
compatible Android devices in range of about 50 feet of each other.
The application creates a server then waits for another client to connect to it (i.e. Server
situation); or ask another device to chat with it (i.e. Client situation). It has a friendly
graphical user interface (GUI). It is easy to use. It cans also, beside exchanges text messages,
sends smiley and allows more than two users to chat among each other. It can save the chat
devices names in order to save time searching for them. It can save chat’s conversations
history in database to make users able to browse through their past conversations.
2. Need of the Project
For Communication with others, people use different services like SMS GPRS, WI-FI etc.
which is very costly to overcome this need Bluetooth chap is developed the purpose of the
application through Bluetooth is to connect phones into local area network and can
communicate with each other at no cost. The Bluetooth Chat App does not need any sort of
Wi-Fi connection, all it needs is two Bluetooth compatible Android devices in range of
about 50 feet of each other.
3. Aims and Objectives

The Aim of this project is to develop a chatting engine that can exchange text that run on
Android Devices using Bluetooth Connectivity Technology.
• Develop an android application for chatting or data/text transmission.
• Develop a system for communication with a limited range of distance.
• Exchange of information via wireless communication media.
4. Review of Literature

The name “Bluetooth” and its logo are trademarked by the privately held trade association
named the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). The name Bluetooth was a code name
used by developers of this wireless technology.
• Ericsson purposed the idea of replacing cables connecting accessories to mobile phones
and computers with wireless links. And hence developing and design of android
Bluetooth.
• JaapHaartsen purposed a Bluetooth Chat application that can be utilized anyplace and at
whatever point between the PC and cell phone like classrooms, conferences et cetera.
• Chiendu Chukwuemeka Mazi purposed Real-time android application (text) through
socket using Bluetooth Technology that focuses to achieve a real-time text exchange
processing between two devices on connection using Bluetooth connectivity technology
medium. The chatting processes take place under paired devices.
• Mao Zheng proposed Bluetooth chatting app. Bluetooth chatting is an innovative
approach to the mobile world. A low –power and low –cost connection is provided by
the Bluetooth among mobile devices and their accessories. It is basically an open
standard for implementing a short-range wireless communication.
• Corpus Christi proposed a system which sets up online communication between diff people
without using any Wi-Fi, SMS, MMS etc. services. people easily communicate within short
range and those which have Bluetooth application.
• Liang Quan purposed a system that not use any services. According to this Wi-Fi which
is not always available and when available the connection strength fluctuates from place
to place. Even when one wants to send a message to another person on the same floor or
a few feet away they must rely on the availability of Wi-f or SMS. Their motive was to
develop a messenger that facilitates communications in a small firm (say college or
hospitals or clinics) free of cost.
5. Materials and Method/Methodology

This app significantly uses Bluetooth hence on start the application firsts checks if the
phone’s Bluetooth is on and if it’s not the app asks user to give permission to turn it on.
After the phone’s Bluetooth is checked, if it is the first time the application first pair with
user. This feature gives a better identification of the user since while scanning for nearby
Bluetooth devices it is often very difficult to identify the user. The app has essentially two
types of terminals:
The communicating ‘server phone’ will receive the message from client terminal and then
espond to the client by sending a message and different emojis. The communicating ‘client
phone’ will send message to the rserver terminal. The app offers two basic operations:
i) Communicating with a nearby user via Bluetooth
ii) Transmitting chats to Android based storage server
