TASK INFORMATION
This task requires you to focus on and address how the United Nations Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs) are currently being implemented within the Healthcare & Life Sciences Industry.

You may find the following SDG Industry Matrix report from the United Nations Global Compact
and KPMG a useful starting point.

The list of sections below provides the issues that you need to consider and address in your report:

1 What three (3) SDGs do you consider are the most relevant to the sector (in terms of positive
and negative impact on the society and the environment)?
2 What strategies could be implemented in order to meaningfully contribute toward these
the three (3) SDGs? What would be appropriate targets and/or indicators to evaluate these
strategies?

Submission Instructions

Submission is online via Cloud Deakin

Submissions are required to be in MS Word (or compatible) format

You must keep a backup copy of every assignment you submit, until the marked assignment has
been returned to you. In the unlikely event that one of your assignments is misplaced, you will need
to submit your backup copy.

Any work you submit may be checked by electronic or other means for the purposes of detecting
collusion and/or plagiarism.

When you are required to submit an assignment through your CloudDeakin unit site, you will receive
an email to your Deakin email address confirming that it has been submitted. You should check that
you can see your assignment in the Submissions view of the Assignment dropbox folder after
upload, and check for, and keep, the email receipt for the submission.

Cover Page
Ensure a cover page is attached to the front of your report, showing unit name, your
name, date of submission, and your student ID number.

Abstract (approx. 100 words; not included in word count)


Type in a short abstract that briefly describes the purpose of the project, and what the
main findings are. (You may want to do the abstract once the assignment is done.)

Introduction (approx. 150 words)


This section must cover two main things
(a) a brief introduction and background to the study
(b) the objectives of the study

For the introduction and background, you must provide a brief introduction to the reader
about the assignment, its relevance and importance etc.

Objectives: You need to clearly state the key objectives (2-3) of the assignment. (hint:
consider the issues you have been asked to address).

Analysis of Sector (approx. 1200 words)


Address the 3 sections representing the issues that you need to consider.

Conclusion (approx. 150 words)


Write a short concluding comment which reminds the reader what the main purpose of
the research was, how you went about addressing the objectives of the study, what was
the data you used and what were the main findings.

References
Include a list of relevant references in alphabetical order, using Harvard style.

Additional Information
Submission of Report
Students are required to submit only an electronic copy of their report (in
MS Word) in the area provided on Cloud Deakin by 23h59 on the due date.

Supporting diagrams
Use tables and diagrams where appropriate. All tables and diagrams must be
numbered, labelled and briefly explained in the text of your paper e.g.
“Table 2 shows the GDP growth of the main economies ....”

Font
Use a 12-point font. (Times New Roman or Arial). The report should be 1.5 line spaced
with an extra line space between each paragraph. Please use page numbers and
indicate at the end of your report the word count.

Word Count
The word limit is 1500 words (=/-10%) and will be strictly adhered to. A 10% penalty
(from the available marks) will apply for deviating from this word limit. The following
sections are NOT included in the word count:
Cover Page; Abstract; References; Appendices.

Research
Students are expected to prepare for the report by reading and citing a range of
references. These could include journal articles, books, newspaper articles, business
reports, and government reports.

Extensions
Extensions may be granted on the grounds of illness or special consideration (not
foreseen possibilities like travel time taken for work). If you need an extension please

discuss this with the unit chair as soon as possible. A medical certificate must
accompany any extension requests based on illness.

Assessment of the report


This report is worth 20% of your final grade. The rubric is available on CloudDeakin. You
should refer to these criteria when preparing your report for submission. Your results
and assessor’s comments will be returned to you normally within 15 business days of
the due date (unless an extension has been granted). You will be notified by an
announcement on CloudDeakin. Students are expected to regularly check CloudDeakin
for such announcements.

Notes

• Penalties for late submission: The following marking penalties will apply if you submit an
assessment task after the due date without an approved extension: 5% will be deducted from
available marks for each day up to five days, and work that is submitted more than five days
after the due date will not be marked. You will receive 0% for the task. 'Day' means working
day for paper submissions and calendar day for electronic submissions. The Unit Chair may
refuse to accept a late submission where it is unreasonable or impracticable to assess the task
after the due date.
• For more information about academic misconduct, special consideration, extensions, and
assessment feedback, please refer to the document Your rights and responsibilities as a
student in this Unit in the first folder next to the Unit Guide of the Resources area in the
CloudDeakin unit site.
• Building evidence of your experiences, skills and knowledge (Portfolio) - Building a portfolio
that evidences your skills, knowledge and experience will provide you with a valuable tool to
help you prepare for interviews and to showcase to potential employers. There are a number
of tools that you can use to build a portfolio. You are provided with cloud space through
OneDrive, or through the Portfolio tool in the Cloud Unit Site, but you can use any storage
repository system that you like. Remember that a Portfolio is YOUR tool. You should be able
to store your assessment work, reflections, achievements and artefacts in YOUR Portfolio.
Once you have completed this assessment piece, add it to your personal Portfolio to use and
showcase your learning later, when applying for jobs, or further studies. Curate your work by
adding meaningful tags to your artefacts that describe what the artefact represents.
