1.

A reinforced concrete beam of rectangular section of size 250mm width

& 550 mm depth overall is to be designed for a factored moment of
225kNm. Compute the reinforcement required at the effective cover of 50
mm. The concrete to be used is M20 and the steel is Fe415. (15 marks)

2. Design a reinforced concrete beam having an effective simply supported

span of 5.5 m. The beam is required to support live and superimposed
loads of 15kN/m and 10kN/m respectively. The materials to be used are
M20 and HYSD steel of grade Fe415. For calculation of the self-weight
of the beam, consider the depth of the beam to be L/12 & width = half of
depth. (15 marks)

3. Determine ultimate moment capacity of a doubly reinforced beam with

B=300 mm , D=600 mm , Ast =2060 mm2, Asc=804mm2 and effective
cover of 50 mm for both tension and compression steels. The materials
used are M-20 concrete and HYSD steel of grade Fe415.The salient
points on stress-strain cover are- (5 marks)

4. A simply supported beam of b=400 mm & d=650 mm is to be reinforced

with 3 bars 25mm dia. Effective span = 5m M20, Fe250. Find the
concentrated load that the beam can support at the centre. (5 marks)
