Many community, even some government hospitals, have an active volunteers program,
comprising people from the community who do a variety of jobs that improve the quality
of life for petients and that free hospital professionals. They may escort patients for
treatment, service and the patients’ library or operate a gift shop or thrift shop to raise
money.
Administrative services
Running a hospital requires the same expertise as managing any other business, and
administrators havr a variety of educational backgrounds and talents depending on the
positions they hold. Whether in patient accounts, utilization of beds, purchasing and
inventory, or running the physical plant, keeping accurate and easily retrievable record is
an important part of successful administration, and computers play an ever increasing
role in that area. A knowledge of law and public relations expertise are also valuable
attributes.
The admitting office in the first introduction to the hospital for more patients. This office
is responsible for keeping track of empty beds and scheduling patients for admission.
Admission personal interview incoming patients, fill out their non-medical records, and
arrange for them to be escorted to their rooms.
In the medical records office, the patient’s complete medical record from admission
through discharge is kept under a number assigned to that patient. The record includes an
initial evaluation, nurses and physicians notes, test findings, medicantions and a
discharge note. Each patient is issued a card with his or her number, and any future
admission to the hospital would be under the same number.

Mother : well,he has been coughing for several days now. I’m wondering if he should
come in and see the doctor.
Nurse : does he have any other sumpyoms like fever, runny nose, or loss of appertite?
Mother : no, actually other tha the cough,he seems healthy, I am concerned though,
because some of his sister’s friends have whooping cough and I know that it can be very
contagious. Isn’t that a pretty serious illness?
Nurse : it can be serious with babies. Has your son been immunized against whooping
cough?
Mother : I’m not sure. He did get all of the suggested vaccinations. I will look it up in our
record.
Nurse : if he has been immunized recently, it is very unlikely that he would catch
whooping cough, even if he has been exposed.
Mother : sounds like I don’t have to worry about that, but what shall I do about his cough?
Nurse : the cough is probably a viral infection. It will help if you give him lot of fluid
and a hot buth before bedtime. A humidifier is also helpful. Keep an eye on the cough to watch
to see if it gets worse. Call us again if he a fever or if you are still concerned.
