ABSTRACT
Gowon regime, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has credence to fostering
pursuance of the scheme 's objectives, Corpers offer one year selfless but patriotic
service to the nation in carefully designed Intensive programme viz- the Orientation!
Induction Course, the Primary Assignment, the Community Development, and the
Winding up exercise.
The orientation! Induction course is the systematic introduction of all prospective Corps
members to the Scheme, to its challenges, and to national imperatives. The Orientation
Camp is the host, temporary home of corpers , and bed rock of Orientation exercises .
The intention is not to re-invent the wheel. I am concerned with the increasing apathy of
some Youths to the scheme. Some have called for the scrapping of the scheme. My
respond in line with aYaruba adage is ' do not throw the child away with the bad water'
Careful study revealed inherent challenges and problems with the scheme which
includes but not limited to Infrastructural decay or total lack of it, poor facilities, slow in
..
The Model Orientation Camp, Oguta is a positive respond to the challenges . The Camp
is a home away from home. It has been designed to integrate with nature . The Camp is
to foster communal living and allow campers interact adequately with nature and co-
camper. It will not only support leadership training , sports, skill development but will
host other socio-economic activities when NYSC scheme is not on course. The design
and its concept is drawn from the background of extensive research, case studies of
existing camps and design synthesis put together in this 'eight chapter' Thesis.
