ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES
WHAT IS WAVE:

-When an object move up and down or vibrate continuously ,energy

in the form of wave is transmitted by a vibrating object to a distance
place.

-So we can say that wave are form in the form of energy to transfer
energy from one place to another .

For example:

(i)When we thrown a stone in the still water then a disturbance is

produce at a place where the stone strick the water. And this
disturbance produce energy in the form of wave.

(ii)This for of wave is know as mechanical wave . Mechanical wave

needed medium to transfer energy from one place to another . Another
example of mechanical wave is sound wave which transfer their energy
through air .

WHAT IS MEDIUM :

-The matter or substance through which sound and any other

mechanical wave is transmitted is called medium.

-Medium for transmission can be solid or liquid or gas .

NOW WHAT IS ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE :

-Electromagnetic wave are formed by the vibration of an electric

charge or we can also say electromagnetic wave are generated by the
acceleration of electric charge .

-Electromagnetic wave also transfer energy from one place to

another but it does not need any medium to transfer energy as the
mechanical wave need.

-This wave have electric and magnetic field both which is

perpendicular to each other.

-All electromagnetic wave travel in same velocity which

EXAMPLE OF ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES :

-Ray of sun which reach us through space without using any medium
and speed is

-Some another example of electromagnetic wave in according to

their decreasing energy , increasing wavelength and decreasing
frequency :

 Cosmic ray
 Gama rays
 X ray
 Ultraviolet ray
 Visible ray
 Infrared ray
 Microwave
 FM
 Radio wave.
