Unit 7 health 7.

2
requires 45 minutes

Steps:
Introduce target grammar: Will, may, and might for future predictions – 10 minutes
• Write ‘will may might’ on the WB and discuss with the class the different uses of each, eliciting
examples as you go.
• Have Ss take out paper and divide it into 3 rows, they should then write Will, May and Might as
the heading for each row respectively.
• Tell Ss they are going to hear part of a talk about the future of technology, they should listen
and fill in their tables/papers with the information given in the talk.

Carefully read the following paragraph for the students:

“How will technology affect our lives in the future? Some people predict that robots
will play a larger role. For example, some families of the future may have a robot in their
homes. These robots will probably prepare food and clean the house. They might care
for young children, too. Robots may also take care of sick people in hospitals. Therefore,
it will be important to feel comfortable around robots. In fact, researchers are already
teaching robots to speak and to move like humans. As a result, robots might behave
more like humans in the future. They might also appear to show emotions, such as joy or
anger. For all of these reasons, it is possible that human-like robots may be very
important someday.”
• Read the passage again, this time more slowly pausing to allow students to check their answers

Practice target grammar:

• Have Ss now create their own predictions of the future (4 or 5 sentences?)
• Put Ss in pairs and have them read their predictions to their friends who must then write down
their predictions into the chart
