Classic Robot Advancements

Transportation
- Autonomous self-driving car
Advantages
1. It increases safety because it prevents human error
2. It decreases the possibility of heavy traffic due to its advanced optimization of traffic flow
3. It gets rid of routine activities as we spend substantial time and energy in transport
4. It enables people to do other tasks at the given travel time while they are in the car
5. It is reduces air pollution of emissions as it does not run on combustion engines but on
electricity
Disadvantages
1. It would be unaffordable for most people as the technology costs way too much for the per
capita income of most people
2. A computer malfunction could easily cause a worse accident
3. Hacking to the vehicle’s software and controlling its operation would be lead to theft or even
death
4. It might lead to a massive loss of jobs. People who makes use of driving as a living might lose
their source of income as their service are not longer needed
5. It could be used to terrorism as the high class of technology could be used for unexpected
attacks

Medicine
- Telemanipulator (Surgical robot)
Advantages
1. It provides greater visualization as the surgeon looks through a 3-D camera which magnifies
the surgical site
2. It enhances dexterity as it allows surgeons the ability to operate in very tight spaces in the body
that would only be accessible through open surgery;
3. because of that, it results to shorter hospitalization and fast recovery time
4. It reduces pain and discomfort as robotic surgery results in smaller incisions
5. It provides greater precision as it allows surgeons to perform complex tasks through tiny
incisions
Disadvantages
1. It takes time for the robot to carry out the surgeon’s command because of the delay in the
transfer of command due to latency
2. An issue of robotics replacing human workers is once again featured because even the highly
trained and more specialized professions, like doctors and surgeons, are now feasible
3. It is expensive both in terms of capital costs and running expenses;
4. It will also require the the training of specialized personnel to repair such technology
5. Complications could arise from robotic surgery due to hemorrhage caused by laceration

Warfare
- Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)
Advantages
1. Since it is equipped with GPS, UAV can be programmed and maneuvered accurately to precise
location
2. It can take high quality aerial photographs
3. It can also take important videos to create 3D maps
4. It can easily be operated by soldiers with relatively minimal experience
5. It can save lives. They greatly reduce putting the military personnel in harm’s way
Disadvantages
1. It is a technology which can interfere with nature as drones have been attacked by animals
2. Drone technology has not come without a cost. It is increasingly becoming expensive for the
military to invest and research on drones
3. The worst case scenario is when drones or a fleet of drones have been commandeered or
taken control by the enemy.
4. Drone warfare often causes collateral damages in civilian lives and property, as well as
traditional warfare too.
5. Drones can always be shot down by the enemy and this possibility grows by the day. This
leaves a vacuum when the drone has been shot down
